    Favorite Podcast!
Eleven years of listening to Psychology in Seattle has expanded my understanding of other people and given me a more in depth understanding of mental health. I recommend the podcast to everyone.

    Rebecca is horrible
Rebecca is very ignorant and spews false information about things she knows nothing about. Humberto episodes are tedious. I like Bob though.

    I've learned so much!
Such a great podcast - so informative if you love human behavior! Great hosts - how I wish Kurt was my therapist!
  • lucy23g
Great show but Better Help is unethical and hurts therapists and clients
I enjoy the show but it makes me sad that he supports Better Help. BH is extremely unethical- they sell client data, promote unethical practices, and treat their clinicians poorly. Please do better with your advertising! Your words have power!

Very helpful and insightful, thanks Dr. Kirk!

    Love, love, love!
LOVE the bigot therapist episode!!!! I have so many takeaways for my private, Christian university students! Thank you for re-sharing! PLEASE! Let’s evolve, people!

    Great!
Have loved this podcast since the pandemic! Always interesting and educational! Love Burto and Bob and of course Kirk! You’ve got me through a lot of difficult times.

    Great Podcast for Therapists
This podcast is good enough to get me to leave a review, which is saying something in my world. I am a recently graduated associate MFT, and I have learned so much from listening to this podcast. Kirk has so many stories and anecdotes to go along with his vast knowledge of this field, and his insights have proved invaluable for me in learning to be a better therapist. Not only is this podcast great for mental health professionals, but also for anyone interested in human psychology and why people act the way they do. After writing this review, I am going to become a paying patron as well, because I need to hear the rest of his recent Virginia Satir episode. Keep up the great work!

    Insightful Conversations
Love listening to the discussions, and especially with Rebecca Bloom together with Kirk Honda.

    Entertaining and interesting!
This podcast is perfect for anyone interested in psychology. Honest and informative with some humor and fun thrown into the mix. Thank you!

    Better Help?
I left this podcast because the material I want to here is mainly for members and instead it’s listening to two guys talk to each other and about themselves. (Except Bob. Love Bob.) I now watch Mental Illness Happy Hour. He quit his largest advertiser and is suffering for it but he said ethically, he could not stay with them. Major shoutout for integrity. Kirk, do you actually think what they’ve done selling clients info to Meta is good and honest? Your show used to be so much better, pushing Better Help? Knocked me right off and I left after listening nearly daily.

Picked the wrong episode to try out
I was interested in learning more about countertransference and found an episode on this podcast. I had never heard of this podcast or listened to it before. I thought the episode I found would be perfect for a long drive. I started my drive and hit play, only to listen to a long ad about toenails and then was told I had to subscribe to the Patreon to listen. Totally inconvenient while I was driving and not a great start to getting into this podcast. Really disappointed.

    Awesome, informative content
I discovered Dr. Kirk Honda at the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns and I’ve learned a lot about psychotherapy, myself and others. It’s no replacement to therapy or education, but it is definitely informative with a human touch. I appreciate hearing Dr. Honda’s, Humberto’s, Bob’s and the rest of the PIS team’s perspective. It has helped broaden my own points of view and biases. 10/10!

Supports BetterHelp which is killing therapy
What the title says- I have many therapist friends who see their profession being gutted by BetterHelp. Sad that these folks take money from such a reprehensible organization 🙁

    NO MORE BETTERHELP
I love this show as a mental health practitioner. I could go on about how wonderful it is (4yrs listener) but for now I’m leaving this one star review up to protest their use of Betterhelp ads. BH willingly handed over private health information about their users over to companies like META for personalized advertisement purposes. I have a lot of respect for Dr. Honda and his ethics; I am also constantly thinking about how to navigate the black-grey-white with my clients, my opinions, my actions etc. So it is very surprising and disappointing that Kirk has still been running these ads. When it came out, I listened to his 2020 episode “Is BetterHelp evil?” as I knew I had a quite negative and dogmatic view on the platform (based on personal experiences as well as those of other therapists/clients) and I always appreciate his knack for suggesting different perspectives, presenting research backed evidence and so on. However, this new discovery about BH’s extremely harmful and unethical practices has happened since, and I think it deserves a new episode reviewing all that has happened and what we know now. Just please remove the ads :( would be a nice bonus if you did a follow up episode. Also- love Bob with all my heart, Humberto is obnoxious and I’m sad he’s on so many episodes with topics i’d love to hear Kirk talk about, Rebecca RULES and should switch places with Humberto in terms of frequency, and Kirk is a very well educated, authentic, funny and perfectly imperfect host/therapist. I’m surprised how many people accused him of being arrogant and shutting down his co-hosts in these reviews… maybe they listened to a Humberto episode. I just think he has strong opinions and, like any of us, can be wrong and still believe firmly that they’re right. And yeah, he rambles. I find it soothing and human, and sometimes I even fall asleep to the sound of his voice lol. Let’s remember therapists are people with their quirks and traits too, and if you don’t love the main host, maybe this one isn’t for you! PS is definitely more personal and laid back than most of the other psychology pods out there, but I like that. I hope you’re reading this, Kirk (or maybe your niece who’s been organizing emails and such for you). I love love love this show and I am a patron. I don’t want to have to protest by unsubscribing but if this keeps persisting, I may need to do just that until these ads go away. Obviously BH has a lot of money to throw around, between paying their clinicians in pennies, settling lawsuits and keeping them hush hush, and paying every podcaster I love for advertising their services. This is about making the ethically sound choice. So take care of these ads… because we and all of those BH clients whose PHI got tampered with deserve it!

If this is psychology I am so sorry for the humanity and science!

    So full of himself
This guy is a blowhard. I feel sad for his co hosts and his patients. They probably need Better Help.

    Unethical sellout
Takes money from BetterHelp, a company that has paid fines for breaking therapist/client confidentiality.

    Life saving content
I know you say “don’t use YouTube as a replacement for therapy” but with how hard it has been to find consistent and reliable therapy in America, your podcast & YouTube channel has really filled those gaps between my therapy sessions and I often find myself more satisfied and relieved after an hour long episode with you (and/or one of your amazing guests) than I ever have with an hour with my therapist. I’ve been in therapy for 5 years now and I have yet to find a moment with my therapist where I ACTUALLY feel better. But using your words and relating them to my life personally, has honestly truly saved my life in many ways. My emotional intelligence has never been this good and I genuinely thank you for that. I have never made a Patreon, but I am on my way to do so in order to get more of your content. Thank you Dr. Kirk 🫶🏼

    Love the show
I have been a long time listener, and Dr. Honda has shared many important insights and details about life that have been eye opening. However, the most recent episode with Humberto is so far reaching. I can’t believe you can’t even have a conversation with a good friend without jumping to irrational conclusions. Obviously, there are deeper issue’s happening within the marriage, but to paint a picture of him as being a bully and awful person is a new level of low and is painting a picture of your perspective without even speaking with his partner.

    Excellent
Whether you’re listening actively or passively, this is a great podcast to have on. Dr Honda and his guests always have thought out, well rounded takes and it’s entertaining to hear the back and forth between old friends as they discuss psychology and current events.

    Love this podcast
I’m usually not a huge “podcast” person but listening to Dr. Honda has gotten me through so many long drives. I love when he has Humberto or Bob on as well, and the many other guests who are so fascinating to listen to. I’ve learned so much from you Dr. Honda, even through your YT channel, Psychology in Seattle. You make such a difference in the world, at least in mine.

…And treats what should be serious … not so.

    Apologies….
That was quite a deep dive! Dr Kirk you already give an enormous amount of detail. But 14 way too much. Enough of the Apologies!

    Host is condescending and arrogant.
I though the co-host, Berto, was really patient with how condescending and dismissive the host (Honda) was of his ideas and opinions. I could barely get through the episode and won’t be back.
  • Dubstepper123456789
    Informative and very progressive
Kirk is very informative and he does a good job of speaking on the podcast. I always learn a lot and I enjoy it. I will say that there is a strong progressive bias. I’ve considered donating to the Patreon, but I don’t want to support some of the charities they do.

Opinion on eating disorder and parents
Interesting and thought provoking but as a 43 year old physician recovered from a 20 year battle with anorexia. I disagree that “most patients with eating disorders” suffered from parental abuse or parents with ED issues. Does it happen? Yes. Does research show that it is the majority of cases? I would say no. This is an old theory that can harm those in recovery. He needs to update his education in eating disorders. A lot has been published in the medical literature in the last 3 years.
  • RebeccaP2016
    Unethical Advertising
Disappointed that the podcast host accepts advertising dollars from such an ethically questionable “therapy” platform.

RE: Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard #47 and #48
Hi Dr. Honda, I hear your worry and anxiety in this episode and I wanted to acknowledge that this is very difficult for you. You started this series of episodes in a different environment, like you said, and it seems like it’s greatly evolved over time. I’ve appreciated your impartiality in all these episodes so much! It feels like a breath of fresh air compared to Twitter and Facebook on this case. I’m slowly moving through the episodes in this series, but I just wanted to acknowledge your anxiety that I heard in this episode. You’re doing great! Sending peace to you. ❤️
  • Here for the chuckles
    Love Psychology in Seattle
It’s really sad that people are getting so bent out of shape over his Depp/Heard trial analysis. I find Dr. Honda has been very unbiased towards both sides and has helped me understand that not everything is so black and white with this trial and he’s actually doing exactly what any good therapist would do by remaining unbiased towards both Heard and Depp by sympathizing with both of them as well as commenting on their mistakes in a very professional nonjudgmental way. Oh well, haters gonna hate is what I always say. You just can’t please everyone. Having said all that, I absolutely love this podcast and find it incredibly cathartic and educational. I’m learning about about psychology in a way that I’ve never experienced through reading about it alone. I highly recommend!
  • Jewlzzzzzzz
    Amazing!
Dr. Honda is a compassionate human being and this is evident through his podcast and other content. He is extremely intelligent and knowledgeable on the subjects he speaks about. I have become a more self aware and compassionate individual just by listening to his content.
  • suzisand
    Enough Already!
Enough with the Depp/ Heard trial!! This has been o er for weeks and he is still talking about it?! The whole media circus that this trial became has set the Me Too movement way back, and at a time when our rights as women are now in peril. I used to love this podcast but it has become little more than a pop psychology podcast. I am done supporting this podcast and done listening period.
  • mtngrlblue
    Enlightening
Dr. Honda is kind and intelligent and I really enjoy learning about why people behave the way they do. Instead of being confused an angry about people who behave in ways I never would, I can be understanding and empathetic with Dr. Honda’s help.
  • Gdo3
    Practical & insightful
I’m a new listener coming to the channel because of JD trial. Initial I only watched YT videos of the trial, which is very insightful and balanced. Initially, I also despise his coverage of reality shows, because those shows are the worst. BUT it turns out Dr. Honda turned those horrible shows into engaging, insightful and practical “lectures” that I learned about narcissistic, wait/listen/validate/response, how parenting impacts the Future of your kids… I plan to continue to listen to Dr. Honda and start digging into his website, especially book recommendation section.
  • lilfossa
    Disappointed
The fact that he has made 30+ episodes of the Depp v Heard trial disgusts me. There are so many people making money and profiting off of a trial that centers around domestic violence and I never expected Dr. Honda to be one to follow the clicks but he’s proven me wrong. For a long time I thought of Dr. Honda as a voice of reason and one of the better psychiatric YouTubers and podcasters but at this point he is just in it for the money and will happily side with the pro-Depp crowd since that is where the money is. I am shocked that someone who is regularly outspoken about misogyny, Incels and MRA has said so many abhorrent things about a woman whom experienced DV. The way he was able to chuckle throughout Amber’s testimony and even implied that she’s lying based on her tone and “shifty eyes” was beyond gross to me.
  • ktodarling
Sadly, a long time listener is departing.
It turns out Dr. Kirk is a vile misogynist who participates in the scrutiny of a woman’s every move, every look, and the cadence of her voice to discredit her as she tells the story for the ongoing abuse she suffered at the hands of her much older, much wealthier, much more powerful husband. If a woman speaks with too much emotion, or not enough, or the cadence is not juuuust right, she’s lying. But, the same cannot be said for her alleged abuser, oh no. Don’t you dare scrutinize HIS cadence one little bit. Thank you for that expert opinion, Dr. Kirk. I’ve sure learned a lot! I hope the money is worth it. I know that if you have even a little bit of a conscience, you will be very ashamed of yourself one day. Good luck.
  • i 😻pugs
    Depp vs Heard
I’ve always enjoyed your episodes, but as someone who isnt really interested in the trial, I found it very clear that you have a bias for Amber Heard and her team.

    New listener, now obsessed
One of my new favorite podcasts! I understand I may be biased, as a I have a masters in psychology, but this podcast is so insightful, empathetic, and smart. Keep up the good work! Happy to be a new loyal listener!

    RE: Mass shooting episode
Thank you for discussing this important topic today. I appreciate the recognition to the school psychology profession as well. Often it feels private practitioners finish or do not understand the school psychologist role but I felt you mentioned with a lot of awareness and respect. I have a caseload of 1,000 in a small rural district. You hit the nail on the head with lack of funding and resources!

I absolutely love this Dr and his incredible way to breakdown behavior and various relationship dynamics into very easy to comprehend concepts and explanations.
  • arcApple
    Self-importance is off-putting
Dr. Honda is informative but his interactions with co-hosts have a student/teacher power dynamic rather than a conversation between colleagues. Also he's a therapist who accepts money to promote BetterHealth which is a highly problematic mental health provider and is often discussed as such in our field.
  • Sahra rara
    Amazing and full with empathy
I truly find this podcast to help me be more empathetic and loving to myself and humans. I feel more heard and I couldn’t agree with Dr.Kirk 98% of the time. It gets me threw work. Once you go psychology in Seattle you never go back lol. But for sure I love everyone who is involved in this podcast that made it superb. But best thing ever to stubble upon. And no I’m not a stan, I think many of his topic is genuinely interesting and it expose my traits too w/o shame and embarrassment. So I can learn to change them. Thank you for this podcast truthfully🤎.
  • muckamooqt
Good, but could be pretty great…
I came upon this and listened to an older episode. I’m not yet familiar with hosts names but noticed in the few episodes I’ve listened to the main dude seems a bit rude to the other host. Just annoying enough that I would listen only occasionally. The one guys talking and he shuts him down as if he has something more impirtant to say. The episode on Kanye where he seems irritated about being told Prince was eccentric. Maybe he can improve on being mindful and less superior.
