Maybe stick to the authors and books?
I listened to the Nathan Hill episode after searching Spotify for “The Nix.” I loved the insight into the novel, however, the host kept bringing politics into the conversation. I am unconcerned about how the host feels about conservatives, and the host presented himself as a disdainful, intolerant bully. Mr. Hill was tactful, the host was not. If the podcast included only the book discussion, my rating would be better.

    Tone deaf & repugnant.
Hankins 2/14/19 interview should be pulled. Not only does he make mention, twice, with 2:25 left that he didn’t like the book, his smug interview style drips with white privilege. The questions he asks and his tone are condescending and not empathic. Nor does it seem like he really got the gist of what Stephanie experienced. It would serve him well to pull down this episode. I’ll certainly never listen to him again.

    Buy yourself a microphone!
I’m sure the content is fascinating but having an echo and terrible sound is an automatic turnoff for me. No reason in this day of inexpensive technology to broadcast a podcast that sounds like you’re in an echo chamber.

    The Avid Reader
I love 💙 the podcast and book selections. In order to continue listening, please ask the Interviewer to speak directly into his phone or microphone. He fades in and out, making it very difficult to hear. In this podcast I can hear the author clearly but the interviewer is garbled. My husband and I recently took a trip and could not listen in the car because the sound is so inconsistent.

    Wonderful
I have listened to many podcasts on Books - this one is delightful, interesting, educational. As an older adult (73) I enjoy podcasts where the interviewer is mature, calm and has read the material he is discussing. The choice of books is expansive and well chosen.

    Great Conversations
Sam asks good questions (most of which I never thought of). I've enjoyed listening and getting new book recommendations.

excellent, informative, relaxed interviews with authors
If you enjoy listening to authors talk in depth about their novels and their writing process as I do, then you will want to subscribe to this podcast. Sometimes I listen to the first few minutes of the podcast to determine if I think that I will enjoy readng the book and then save the rest of the podcast until after I finish as Sam Hankin really gets into each book with the author. And he is so friendly and relaxed yet still incredibly detailed about the book. Mostly fiction books are discussed, but some non fiction as well. Podcasts are usually somewhere between 30- 55 minutes in length. Definite recommendation. Michelle

    Sam is a smart reader....
I have learned so much about close reading and discussing thoughts and literary tools just from listening to Sam discuss books with these authors. He picks out nuggets to explore and its wonderful to hear the author get into expanding on plot choices, voice and language. Sam also does great at turning the interview into a real conversation by following the author's lead and not dominating with assumptions or canned questions. Keep it up!

    No Carol Anshaw
Please change the title of the episode which doesn't actually feature Carol Anshaw. It was misleading and disappointing to download and find out later that she was not on the podcast as advertised. Thanks.
