    My favorite movie podcast
I absolutely adore this podcast and getting to know Alonso and Dave White through their long-going podcast has been a treat. The bickering is always a delight but their commitment to covering movies not covered elsewhere is to be commended. Highly recommend this podcast.

    Important and Unique Film POV
If you’re looking for a new and unique POV on film- you gotta listen to Linoleum Knife! If you care about movies- it’s a must listen.

    Something’s Cooking
One guy has a roast in the oven, but he takes the time to explain to his loveable husband that Beau Travail—with its heartbreaking, hilarious final scene—is a film delicacy comparable to other great films they have both reviewed, like Force Majure.

    Ordinary People..
I have a very long daily commute. Your podcast keeps me company. I enjoy listening to not only what you think about movies, but what you think about everything else. What really piqued my interest was your reply to what you two thought would be a good representation of an autumn movie. All three of us said “Ordinary People “. It happens to be my very favorite movie. I’ve dissected just about every scene a million times . Everything you two mentioned, I have also thought about. So thanks for keeping me company, and mentioning my favorite movie! I also got to see the Midnight Cowboy documentary last night. It was surprising and touching to see John Voights response to talking about the movie.

A Splendid Podcast of the Cinema
This movie podcast, named after a goofy novelty metal song by the band Mastodon for the Alpha Teen Hunger Force movie many moons ago, involves a married set of film critics, one an academic and the other just the pretty arm candy, updates regularly with films of both the multiplex and the arthouse and the streaming home boxes. Sometimes there are guests. Highly recommended to friends, foes, and fronds.

    The perfect critique balance
Alonso and Dave give all points of view of a film and are clear as to why they feel as they do about it. They review all levels of movie with equal enthusiasm and critique. They treat kids’ movies, blockbusters, and art house flicks with the same level of respect. I am so grateful to find this podcast. It’s everything I’ve always wanted in film reviews.

Quirky thoughtful film and tv analysts
I found Dave and Alonso when they substitute hosted for another podcast I listen to and I was immediately charmed by their wit, their warm banter, and their insightful analysis. Listening to their podcast is like spending time with old friends. Through them I’ve discovered many films, some foreign, some decades old, that I wouldn’t have known about. And I enjoy their tv reviews too. I feel like I’ve watched La Brea even tho I never have and never will. Thank you Dave for nobly watching so we don’t have to!

What’s better than a perceptive, knowledgeable, witty film critic? How about two? How about two with a decades-long personal history that lends their discussions a rare warmth? Dave White and Alonso Duralde’s disparate tastes and complementary personalities make their show a one-of-a-kind pleasure. Apart from dependably lively, down-to-earth conversation - always about film, often about more - Linoleum Knife is also a great resource for keeping up with the latest hits as well as under-the-radar gems. Give a few listens, and you’ll be hooked.

One of the best film podcasts around!
I look forward to this podcast every week. I was introduced to them both via What the Flick (now Breakfast All Day). Week after week, Alonso and Dave deliver intelligent, thoughtful film criticism. The rapport is easy and the conversations about their lives are always enjoyable. And Dave has phenomenal music taste. In short, I’d totally love to hang with these guys in real life, but I’ll settle for my weekly fix via this podcast.

    Greatness
Fellas, the two of you are my favorite film critics. (My favorite critic of all time is Alexander Pope - I know, bit pretentious). My question is, who are some of your favorite film critics that I could also check out? Thanks! Love the show!

    Can’t Believe I’ve Never Reviewed!
Love Dave & Alonso’s reviews and lil banter. Def a comfort listen. ❤️
  • Stuff is neat!
    What a delight!
Linoleum Knife is a warm rumbly ear hug. I found this show years ago, from the now defunct Pop Rocket, and remain ever grateful! The banter is charming and the film criticism is insightful. Dave and Alonso are a constant joy and a must listen for every film lover.

Alonso is the Skip Bayless of movie pods!!
I love this show!! Alonso and Dave never spoil the films and always have very interesting points!!

I stopped by to say I need cake talk!
Gosh I do enjoy this film podcast. Great hosts with so much insight into the film world. I learn quite a bit and am often reminded that I should listen to Blue Monday again. ;) But more importantly I get to hear two wonderful husbands who happen to be critics discuss the intricacies of a cake Dave has made. And how excited he was to serve it to a solo guest allowed on their porch behind the door glass. And occasionally I’ll hear about Alonso’s meatloaf. What a treat! Thanks for not sending it all to knife and fork you too. -lots of love. Brian

So glad they stopped talking about cake (although sorry for reasons why) Best of luck

Reminding me of the joy of Cinema
I used to watch all kinds of movies, and then I had kids and got into a suburban rut and drifted away from the more interesting films I used to pursue. I came to Linoleum Knife because I also listen to MAXIMUM FILM and wanted to hear more from Alonso. And what I found here is a delight. Dave brings a gravitas (and a gravelly voice) that complements Alonso very well, and in listening to the show I'm reminded what it was like to gather with friends after a night out at the movies to talk through what we'd seen. Thanks for bringing me back to the fold, gents!

Often the best part of my week
I am a new fan but a fan nonetheless. These releases are if not the best part of my week, definitely a top ten moment for sure!

So underrated, not for long though
Outstanding host, witty banter, great humor (silly at times), and most of all knowledgeable.

    Eh
First time listener White Lotus episode. Disappointing on several levels—what is YOUR opinion, not people on the internet. Not insightful or thoughtful. White liberal apologists. Also the show is over—no spoilers makes no sense. Bye.

    Dave and Alonso Rule!
Love this podcast. Always thoughtful critiques on movies of the day. Highly recommend.

    Smart and down-to-earth commentary
Recommended to me a couple of years ago as a movie and food lover (had already been a fan of What the Flick?!). Love Dave and Alonso’s sweet and genuine dynamic and their timely insights about culture and art. Also, as a native Texan and teacher, love Dave and Alonso’s considerations of geography and education as well. Always interesting and fun—bravo!

A weekly chat with our uncles
Regardless of how much you love movies or consume media, the discussions this married couple have are so comforting and enlightening, you’ll find some joy in every episode. Their relationship and banter holds decades of love and shared experience, but that certainly doesn’t always mean agreement. I appreciate their pacing and personalities, their views and how they express them. Thank you both for the passion and work you put in.

I’m a big fan of this podcast. I also just purchased Mr. Duralde’s book “Have Yourself A Movie Little Christmas.” My wife and I are loving it so far! -Ron B.

If you love movie, you came to the right place
I found this podcast by way of What The Flick and haven’t looked back. I love the conversations about movies that are not in the main stream. Of course, they still will review the next marvel movie, but they will also review an independent Brazilian film that 15 people in the world have seen. And I love them for it. They have really opened my eyes to cinema that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. For that I say, thank you. I do have two minor criticisms that has no bearing on the quality of the podcast. First, when I listen to this podcast, I have to turn it up louder to hear it at the same volume as other podcasts. (This is especially noticeable if I have GPS navigation on.) Second, why is Alonso’s podcast, Film and a Movie, not on stitcher? These minor issues do not detract from the amazing quality of this podcast.

    Well...
I listened to LK for the last 6 years or so and was a member of their Patreon for at least a few years. I loved LK and LKTV a lot but Alonso was extremely rude to me for no reason on social media and his attitude just kinda soured the whole experience. I haven't wanted to listen at all after that. It’s a shame too because I truly enjoyed their pod and their criticisms. I don’t wanna give attention or hard earned money to anyone who treats a genuine and paying fan that way though. There’s enough not nice people in the world right now and I just can’t see myself paying for the privilege of someone condescending to me.

Insightful, oh and also film commentary
Insightful commentary about life, love and baking from a married couple, who also offer film reviews. I found it thru the much-missed What The Flick (now Breakfast All Day). I appreciate Dave’s global approach to cinema, which led me to a donkey film among others. Great intelligent talk about important art form.

One of my weekly must listens
I was brought to Dave and Alonzo by way of the sadly deceased Pop Rocket. I am not particularly a cinephile (I’m more of a TV lady), but through their reviews I learn what movies are worth spending my time/money. Their banter absolutely warms my heart and, for a girl growing up as a “progressive” in the Midwest (IN) it’s nice to hear world views similar to my own. I feel like I’m being invited into their home, and can practically smell the tart Dave is inevitably baking. I would like to give them an honorary 6th ⭐️ for their fun social media accounts, and for being the coolest people to ever like some of my posts. :) Subscribe now, it will become one of your favs! Much love - MissBRissler

Like drinking tea on a cold winter’s day
Most podcasts are in a hurry to hold your attention, to make sure you stay. Linoleum Knife is not this - in the best way possible. This podcast is relaxing, insightful, and always warm my days when I listen. Alonso and Dave are lovely hosts, with great chemistry (duh - they’re married) and wonderful, soothing voices. Their opinions are always interesting and well-stated, and there’s enough humility in both of them to acknowledge other opinions on things, especially when talking about a film covering an experience they’re not as familiar with. Most of all, though, I love them because they (at least in podcast form, although I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t real life too) radiate empathy and love. Their kindness never fails to put me in a good mood, to relax me when I need it, and for that I am so grateful for these wonderful hosts who make all of our lives better.

    Casual Yet Insightful
I found this podcast through Good Christian Fun and was delighted to have another film podcast in my queue. There’s a very personable approach to the discussion but it’s clear these know what they’re talking about.

    Much More than Movie Reviews
Linoleum Knife isn’t just a movie review podcast, it’s the closest thing I’ve found to a Sunday afternoon Tea Dance at the original Hula’s in Waikiki, where one could sit with friends at a table under the shade of the banyan tree enjoying the gentle trade winds and the sometimes catty, always lively, conversation over bloody Marys and margaritas. The hosts, Dave White & Alonso Duralde are one of those rare, perfectly matched married couples who can live and work together without being nauseating or one of those creepy couples who co-anchor local news programs or run real estate brokerages. These charming hosts spend almost as much time reviewing movies as they do discussing food, cooking, and talking about amusing experiences that could only happen to the Hollywood adjacent. Alonso is the one who has gone to the big film festivals in Venice and Cannes enough to know the Italian and French catchphrases used by pretentious snobs, but I’ve only heard him using them when he’s mocking snobs. Dave has the gravely voice and features that allow him to come off as guff and surly, but you can tell by the end of a single podcast that he’s a great big softy. If you want a simple thumbs up or down review and nothing more, keep looking. If you want to get reviews from a couple who make you feel like a welcomed guest, listening to an engaging conversation, this podcast is for you.

The best new wave punk media you need now⭐️
High recommendation. Two handsome gentlemen who just happen to be married. They give to the common people their wonderful opinions on cinema and actors and directors and sometimes banana bread. Sometimes their stories are so intimate that it feels like you are listening in on them. This is why I love them like a Studio Ghibli water droplet ❤️

I Will Read Any 5-Star Review I Get Because I Am Desperate
My name is Fluffy McFluffypants and my husband is named Snotty McSnottypants. Everyday I try and fail to find meaning in my endless fruit-based deserts, yet I nonetheless enjoy this Sisyphusean effort, because they taste good. Most of our favorite films most people will never see, and yet we gab on and on about them, yelling into a void which is perfectly content to only muse about Synder and Nolan. Is it worth it? Probably not. Does at least one reviewer enjoy it? You bet. Their name is B Peterson, and they listen every week.

    Deliciousness for your earholes
Sometimes they talk about cake and it is fascinating. Often times they talk about movies and it is fascinating, but you are still imaging that delicious cake.

    All About Dave
To those of you who do not read, attend the cinema, listen to uncensored recorded programs or know anything of the world, it is perhaps necessary to introduce the gentlemen behind Linoleum Knife. Their names are Alonso Duralde and Dave White. Their native habitat is the cinema. In it they toil not, neither do they spin. They are critics and commentators. They are essential to the cinema. Alonso and Dave, with every word, look, thought, or suggestion, demonstrate their adoration of each other and their love of the cinema. (And for those who wisely invest a small sum via Patreon, they also share their love of food, TV, politics, LA, Dave’s punk rock past, and friend and neighbor Gary Cotti.) They are inspiring to say the least. When listening, one wants horn in on their world, claim them as mentors, perhaps start writing and podcasting excellent criticism without their knowledge, and then run away to Hollywood with one’s assistant, “Phoebe.” I detest cheap sentiment. And yet, every episode is more than just a reading. It’s a performance! Brilliant, vivid, something made of music and fire! If there were a Sarah Siddons Award for Podcasting Excellence, the winners would be Dave and Alonso.

    I’m in love
These guys are so great! You get: *soothing, grumbly voices *lots of delicious food talk *snarky yet incisive movie talk *disagreement with affection and respect ...and so much more. They are my first choice when I need something calming but distracting, always entertaining. Love them!

    Seriously informative
I am a pop culture Stan. I enjoy what I enjoy and this is one of those things. Dave with his buttery voice and avant-garde sensibilities always informs me of things I should know of or things I should seek out. Alonso with his tell it like it is manner is extremely informative. I look forward every week to this program

Comforting voices in this tough time
Been listening to these dudes for years now and they never disappoint. Given our current predicament they are a small slice of normalcy in this chaos. Also if you desire more of them and trust me you will, support the heck out of their Patreon, like do it now. Thx!

    Thank You
I look forward to listening to youtwo every week. I love your rapport with each other which brings out the love and humor. I've also learned of films that would of otherwise not been on my radar. For this I truly thank you as I have enjoyed many of these. Please keep it coming, Craig

    These men are my favorite
I’ve been listening to this podcast for a little over the year and it is by far the most heartwarming part of my week. Listening to film critics as experienced and eloquent as these two is simply delightful. Many folks have expressed this sentiment already, but to reiterate Alonso&Dave feel like the kind of friends you have always wanted. I was a patron for a while but sadly I had to pause my subscription due to some rather large medical bills. But if you can afford it, the other podcasts Alonso&Dave produce are beyond worth it. Of those, I recommend Linoleum Nights the most. Their banter on all things from pop culture to politics is pure gold-though all them are great. I listened to Linoleum Knife+Fork while I cooked and LKTV after catching up on The Circle. Point being, you won’t regret listening and/or joining their club. It will make your week infinitely better.

    My Go-To Podcast!
I’ve been avidly listening to Dave & Alonso for a couple of years now and I’m always thrilled when a new episode has been posted. Whether they are thoughtfully discussing the latest movies (big & small), or chatting about delicious recipes...I am always engaged. Linoleum Knife is a big, comfy podcast that is a tonic for dreary Monday mornings.

I miss them when they are gone and I smile when they are near
This is possibly my favorite film podcast of all time. Dave and Alonso are the best, their insights are helpful and invormative, their dynamic is fun and warm, and the show feels like hanging out with friends altho none of my friends are this great. I love the combination not only of their personalities but the contrasts of their tastes and when they have guests it is never a disapointment. Thanks so much for being so many folks surrogate gay uncles

    Favorite film podcast
They’re film critics. They’re married. They’re highly entertaining. I love their conversations about film as well as their conversations about things completely unrelated to film. It’s all amazing. I learned about films like In Fabric and Buddies from this podcast. I learned the best method for frying an egg from this podcast. Sometimes I think my phone has died, but it’s just one of Dave’s prolonged pauses. Sometimes I’m surprised with a lovely bit of banter like the following: Alonso: “I’m twerking on fleek.” Dave: “I’m quitting the show.” It’s the best.

A stellar movie podcast with two hosts that perfectly balance each other’s movie taste. Soothingly discursive, pointedly political, and devoted to exposing listeners to great cinema. The best movie podcast hands down

    This Show Makes My Day
A a teenager who has just recently found a love for movies, it’s nice to see two critics who are able to appreciate "good" art films and classics while still being able to enjoy dumb action movies without expecting them to be anything they’re not. Not to mention the great dynamic between these too; they make an hour long discussion on movies you probably haven’t seen very interesting.
  • SuperBjornBjorn
    Funny and smart
A married couple that are film reviewers share their opinions on cinema. Often funny, full of married life digressions, some complaining, but always entertaining. They have a depth of knowledge and a love of film that aids their thoughtful reviews. They’re proudly totes on fleek. Also they like cake.

The Most Whimsical Bear Spouses on the Planet, and Movies Too!
Yeah, that's right... Dave White may sound like/play the occasional role of a grumpy Guy, and Alonso can get worn down, but they are the most whimsical and delightful married couple you can imagine, and I envy those that live near them that have been granted the title friend. So yes, their reparte is wonderful... but oh the reviews. They constantly steer me towards new and wonderful films (helped build my love for Agnes Varda) and they speak about them with articulate wit. Possibly more fun is hearing them talk about movies the hate. The most fun of all is them reveling in trash. We all love some trash films (I'm looking at you Cannibal the Musical my dear friend), and if you can hear them talk about Showgirls then you have experienced life the way it was meant to be lived. 5 stars is not enough!
