The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast

Join Seth Meyers as he sits down with fellow SNL alum and comedy-music sensations The Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone) to discuss their wildly popular and groundbreaking series of SNL Digital Shorts that aired on Saturday Night Live beginning in 2005. Episode by episode they'll discuss how each short was created, what the response to it was at the time, and what impact, if any, it still has today. Aided by Seth, the guys will relive their time at SNL and reminisce on the nearly 50-year-old show from a time when putting short comedy sketches on the internet was so novel that they maybe even helped launch YouTube to do it. Along the way they'll talk all things SNL from guests, fellow cast members, and favorite live sketches including many that never aired.

    Quaid Army Rejoice!
This podcast is never not great. Love the banter as well as the insider info on what went into TLI creations. If I could make one change to the podcast, it would be to have Poshy Meyers chime in whenever they are talking too much about Spelling Bee to tell them to shut up about Spelling Bee and play the hits! Poshy does a superb job of reigning in that rebel Seth on Family Trips. Keep it up dudes!

    Shame!
I’d love to give this 5 stars, but the incessant Jorma bashing is beyond the pale - anterograde amnesia is no laughing matter. Be better.

    Amazing
I just started listening to this podcast and I was immediately impressed! I haven’t really gotten into SNL so I watch most of the shorts they talk about! The conversations are super funny and engaging and if you a laugh, you are definitely in the right place! (To the guys) You guys NEED to do an episode about People Getting Punched Right Before Eating! It is my absolute favorite digital short and I would really like to hear what you have to say about it! Also, I think if you brought a guest on the show, maybe the host of the show that digital short was in, you’d get a lot of positive feedback! Just some ideas.

    Truly An Golden Era
I’m 29, a true millennial and I’m definitely the target audience. I vividly remember watching a lot of these digital shorts and sketches live and I couldn’t agree more with Seth about it being “A Golden Era”. Love the Lonely Island and love Seth!

    The Pod
I’m pretty much in love with all of you. And I’m already married but that’s okay because you all are too. This pod makes my Monday. When you have an extra one I get like Andy on the jav .

    re-release hot rod
If you convince paramount to put hot rod back in theaters, people who have been watching this on dvd for the last 18 years that missed it in theatrical release will go see it. I promise you will make that budget back if all the socials announce the theatrical rerelease. Not many people are excited for the movies coming out in 2025 so pick a weak weekend, the people will come. There are many new young folks in their early 20s who are very into the 2000s era of snl that want to see lonely island and bill hader young on the big screen. Trust me!!!!!

    Best Podcast
Two great tastes that taste great together. I do want to point out that Seth is wrong when he said SNL turned 50 last October. The show’s actual 50th birthday is October 11, 2025.

    Dear Sister
I cannot put into words how much joy this podcast brings me. I grew up on the Lonely Island and that era of SNL. I remember walking out of the theater after seeing Hot Rod in the 8th grade and thinking it was the funniest movie of all time. This podcast is a little time machine to my very favorite era of comedy. Thanks Akiva, Jorma, Andy, and Seth for the laughs every Monday and for the countless laughs over the years :)

    Ad read hijinks
Love the show, but the past two weeks I’ve noticed the ad for Aura Frames, it keeps being read as “Aurora Frames” just makes me giggle. I did buy that frame for my Mom though based on an ad on Family Trips and she loves it.

    Careful what you wish for
I have always loved their work like a proud friend or family member with a side dish of jealousy. If you are a fan of absurdist comedy (e.g., Monty Python, Kids In The Hall, The State, Tenacious D, etc.) and you want glimpses of how the sausage is made, you will love this podcast—BUT CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED. You will get it. Like watching your favorite movie with commentary after the 100th watch, the magic tricks will be revealed. I absolutely love it but I am also an insatiable learner. I just always have to know what is available to know when I am into something (their comedy style and obvious close friendship). They remind me of my friends and me at our “peek” of what we considered comedy. Our dreams of all being on SNL together, working with our best friends and loving work and life together. The stressful nights and big payoffs, the excitement of accomplishing dreams only to be let down, persevering, and coming out that much closer as friends in the end with full lives and families. Wonderful listens and getting to know them better and finding out how much Seth plays in their story as a close friend and fan. The fourth dude, Seth. Successful in his own right, who just can’t get enough laughs from his ridiculous pals, isn’t always included in the action, but always roots for his hilarious friends no matter what. Don’t worry fellas: it was “an golden era” for sure.

    5 Smints for Kuato
If you’re a nerd for SNL stories and anecdotes like me, this one is for you. It’s covering my favorite SNL era (Ann Goldin era) and you can tell Seth and the guys find each other very funny, even though Andy hates podcasts.

Advertisers no one is listening to your LONG copy
I think your show is good but not worth my minimal effort to endure/forward the ads. I support content creators being paid for content and from a business POV I understand why big names are taking advantage of the latest podcast advertising cash grab (I work in advertising so I too benefit from this infrastructure). I know you think listeners are ungrateful for not appreciating free content supported by ads, but from listener’s POV we want to be entertained/informed as we relax or multitask. Ad interruptions are the equivalent of thinking you have 60 min of “me time” but then a small child randomly starts interrupting you multiple times with random questions you have no vested interest in. This puts you in high alert waiting for next interruption and you can’t relax. Advertisers be real no one is listening to your long copy no matter what metrics you use to justify your spend. Let’s meet in the middle with very short ads (without increasing frequency).

    Loving this podcast
This is such a fun podcast. Everyone is so funny and it’s such an escape from the darkness of politics. You don’t need to know every or even most sketches to enjoy. I highly recommend listening to them in order because I love the way the story unfolds.

Thank you for the Family Vacations episode with Jorma and including a picture because I truly wasn’t sure which one he was and now I know.

    The Signoff
I just wanted to tell you all how great it is that you sign off each podcast telling each other that you love one another. You can tell you’re close, and the pursuit of the funny is truly what brings you together. Thanks for the podcast, as well as the chance to peak behind the curtain and get your commentary on what was some hilarious videos.

    Here I go was great!
This was so much fun to see a “today” version of the digital short era I loved. As great as it was Alec Baldwin’s pants being in zipped at the goodnights, stole the show. Please discuss if it was intentional or not!

Great BTS bits around the 80 minutes of ads
Love the behind the bits stuff. Hate the 80 minutes of ads on every episode.
  • Costanzafan25
Great when they stick to the formula
When it’s a regular episode where they go back and dissect an old SNL episode and talk about that week, it’s a fantastic show and the best SNL history podcast out there. When they take a whole episode to talk about whatever Andy’s did the past week in season 50 it’s awful, and just details everything. I don’t even know why Andy’s still there in this atrocious S50, but I’d rather they just shut up about the shlock they’re throwing out nowadays and stick to talking about an golden era. At this point it feels like they’re extending the podcasts lifespan as much as they can.

    4 Soothing Shock Jocks

    Pure fun!
What an awesome podcast this is! I've watched SNL for the entire 50 years, and I love hearing about all the BTS stuff. Also, can I just say how cool it is to hear a bunch of grown men tell each other "I love you" at the end of each podcast? The world needs more of that. It's clear you guys are great friends, and I love hearing you TLI guys kibitz about your creative process. I look forward to this pod every week. Thanks again Seth for getting this together!

    Best podcast of all time
I love everything about this show, including the way Jorma sometimes shows up from Finland and sometimes he doesn’t. I love the theme songs. I love the way they all say “I love you” to each other. Sushi. Glory. Hole.
  • NadiaMu
Makes my Monday commute more fun for sure
I mean, I might just be the exact right age to feel nostalgic about Lonely Island videos, but I think it’s a fun podcast just beyond that. Bonus: my sister gets Queen Bee all the time and I can’t get past Genius so I really identify with all the Spelling Bee chatter. Plus it’s a secret bts of whatever movie Jorma is directing in Finland right now.

How did I not know this existed?
It’s fantastic. Just what I needed. Funny & fun. Great look behind the SNL curtain. Great listen

    An absolute delight
Hilarious and fascinating to get a peek behind the curtain of AN Golden Era of SNL. The love and fondness that these 4 have for each other is so clear and just melts my heart. Also they’re obviously so funny and all the bits and teasing each other is a joy. Love you guys!!!

The best SNL podcast ever made
I love this podcast and have listened to each episode multiple times. The chemistry is obviously amazing and the guys are fantastic at breaking down every digital short they have conceived. I am also happy that we are invited to Seth’s corner each week to get an inside look at some of his favorite sketches that were or were not a part of the show that week. Mondays are finally starting to be a little brighter now that The Lonley Island is dropping sweet sweet pods. Thanks boys!

    I LOVE IT!!
My parents would show me throw it on the ground when I was like, four, and later, I learned about SNL, then I realized it was a digital short. I was so exited! (P.S. Andy (and briefly Jorma in that Florida episode) was amazing on Brooklyn 99!)
