God's Country

“God’s Country” with brothers Dan and Reid Isbell is a rollicking weekly podcast that sits at the intersection of country music and the great outdoors. Each episode explores how today’s biggest and most talented country stars and songwriters pull inspiration from rugged,  first-hand relationships with the natural world. Nashville songwriters by profession who spent their childhoods getting muddy in the wilds of Tennessee, Dan and Reid draw on their own passion for hunting and fishing to lead a thought-provoking and fun exploration of the fundamental role of outdoor living in country music.

    Peaked Early
The definition of a podcast that started off hot with top country artists and song writers but ended up falling off a cliff. So much so that they already had to repeat guests because their flame has flickered and gone out and no one else is taking their calls. In all seriousness if you like sitting at the intersection of country music and the outdoors this is a must listen. A perfect balance between hunting and fishing stories and learning a little inside baseball on song writing. Thank you boys for keeping it up and being my first listen every Tuesday!

    You smell something?
Weekly reminder from Dan and Ben (or is it Reid) about the impossible balance of parenting and working full time. Something they didn’t learn from their dad, who fished six days a week and preached on Sunday. Dan proves that short shorts are not for everyone and rocks the boots just to make us cringe even more. Reid’s childlike good looks and soprano singing voice attracts men from all over town, resulting in his wife having to be on set at all times to fend them off. This is the podcast we can all relate to. Bravo! Five stars!

    Groundbreaking Concept
“God’s Country” is a brilliant, groundbreaking podcast that does something no other podcast does. The Brothers Hunt use their platform to invite on a guest that sounds like someone you would love to hear from…and then uses their show to make it all about them! Whether it’s a record shattering deer kill, all the people they know, or how much they hate traffic, it’s all Isbell, all the time! The best part? All things lead back to Luke Combs!! On a serious note, you guys are awesome. I’ve never killed an animal but I love your hunting stories. You guys are the best. 5 STARS!

    Dan “Faster Than He Looks!”
Just found y’all’s podcast and have been listening out of order but am currently on the Riley Green episode. Being a fellow 41 year old and also being familiar with old man injuries (injuries that just happen out of no where, like from sleeping in a bed that’s too small for you) I am envisioning “top tall” Dan lining up for a race and pulling up at the 30 yard mark with a hammy or an Achilles. Don’t do it Dan! *in the spirit of a roast from a younger brother to an older brother! Keep rocking that bare tone harmony! Love you boys!

    Big Dawgs
I’m an avid listener of the show, but I made the mistake of watching on YouTube… turns out the small one is bigger than I thought, but the big one is smaller than I thought. Anyways… Thanks for being open in sharing your faith and advice for Dads, and for bringing us great guests and stories along the way.

Keep crushin it!!!

    Love the show!
I’ve been listening since the first episode premiered and look forward to the new episodes that drop every week. I’m from West TN as well and enjoy hearing the stories from Dan and Reid and the artists and songwriters that they have on the show. One recommendation for a guest that I would love to hear from would be David Nail. He is an excellent artist and songwriter and I would love to hear his story and background. Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next episode!

    Baritone can be hard.
Man… sometimes you shouldn’t chime in with harmonies. Let the guests do their thing. Reid’s alright on the tenor but dag on, Dan struggles to find that baritone. God forbid you stack it under the lead. Anyway, this is my favorite podcast and I’ve found a lot of artists that I love because of y’all. Baritone can be hard.

    Roast turkeys
These turkeys don’t know turkey or can’t count. Telling Tucker Wetmore there’s 4 subspecies of North American turkey is like telling Luke there’s more than one color of PFG shirt. Come on out to AZ and see some Gould’s turkeys and learn to count. Great show…love you guys. Keep it up!

    Gods Country
Dan is just a fat dude who loves to get off track about almost anything. Reed needs to bulk up but he ain’t as bad a Dan Honestly y’all’s podcast is awesome I’ve gotten to listen to so many new artists this way.

Crossroads of great potential and epic failures
The guests are great, the hosts…akin to dumb and dumber. I’d recommend this podcast to anyone solo hunting in grizzly country, if only to keep the bears away. At the end of the day, I do appreciate Dan and Reid pulling up their Tecova boots and going hard after the things we love and care about. Keep digging for diamonds boys.

    The Brothers ADHD
If you want to listen to a couple guys struggle to stay on topic for more than 2 minutes and end your commute confused by what you just listened to, this podcast is for you. Yeah, we get it, you killed one nice buck from a truck bed. All jokes aside, once you get past Dan complaining about the most petty things in life and Reid trying to maintain his 25 handicap, the show is legit. The comical banter gets usually culminates with some deep stories about life that can resonate with even those not passionate about the outdoors and country music. I’m a day one listener and y’all are killing it. Just when I thought the episode with Craig Morgan was the peak, y’all keep delivering great content. Hearing the stories of those behind the music, really brings songs to life. Kudos to Steve and MeatEater for recognizing talent and bringing you into their circle as I wouldn’t have came across your podcast otherwise. It’s a welcome addition to my weekly commute podcast rotation, marrying two things I’m passionate about. Notice no mention of riding someone’s coat tails, you’re welcome. PSA: if you listen, killer will likely become part of your daily vocabulary.

    Field and weak streams
Couple dudes with crazy boob sweat and voices not quite good enough to get record deals talk about other people’s success while daydreaming of having wallen and church on to talk about getting their wanna be outdoor content in the next field and stream

    Just OK
This podcast has the potential to be a 5 star podcast very easily. Unfortunately it drops the ball on that and leaves a ton to be desired. The “What You Mad At” section is completely unnecessary and has absolutely nothing to do with anything surrounding the outdoors or music and is always a waste of time. The best part of the entire podcast is the raw voices from various different artists we get to hear in the “Gravorite Song” section which they do at the very end of each episode. The hunting and fishing stuff is good too and I usually enjoy that aspect of the show. But I’ve been listening to this podcast for probably as long as it’s been out and every single time I’m always left thinking the same thing: “these guys should do a whole lot less talking and a whole lot more singing!”

    Brothers Hunt?
Brothers Hunt? The only thing these guys hunt are high fence deer and Huck’s pizza rolls. That 200” deer? Paid for. I heard it only measured 166” but they paid the deer farm for some spike sheds to glue on it. And after the shot Dan looked like Luke Bryan’s video asking if it was down.

    Hardin County Escapees
The guys don't hear it, but we actually applaud at the end of the show ... because it's over. Two guys who once compared smash burgers to McDonalds and referred to their "middle school careers" on camera? But hey, I have their dad to thank for years of great sermons and a baptism, so they can't be all that bad! Love the show guys, and congrats on all that you guys have achieved. May the best days be yet to come! Sending good vibes from Michigan. Take care.

    Curing Car Sickness
The fact that Dan cured his most car sick moment with a pile of BBQ at the top of a mountain in North Carolina is awe inspiring. These kind of life lessons are invaluable to the American people. You may only find a lesson in one out of ten episodes. Just hang in there. You’ll get some solid country music knowledge in the process.

    Dan & Reid Hunt?
“The Brother’s Hunt”… seriously? As clever as yall are, this is what you came up with? That name is softer than leftover pizza. Makes you sound like you eat corn on the cob the long way and wash it down with Seltzer beers. In all seriousness, you guys are the best. By far my favorite podcast right now!
  • Wa007
    Groundhog Day
Listening to every podcast is like living groundhog day! Same stories new guest, Colbie with one that got away! Instead of Brother’s Hunt-rinse and repeat brothers!

    Coattail Clingers
We get it. You’re interviewing other artists to get co-writes and cuts so it’s not as obvious you’re riding the Coattails of Combs and Rinella.
  • Mike Slattery
    The Brothers Hunt?
Two brothers with a band name, but no band. The Brothers Hunt? Sounds like a duo that couldn’t decide between being a country band or a discount YouTube survival show. I half expect them to show up in camo, claiming they “live off the land,” but really, they’re just living off Luke Combs’ Wi-Fi.
  • Staz08
    Love these idiots.
Y’all are daggum funny. Both of ya have gotten so much better the longer you’ve been doing this. Almost everyone is bad when they start something you guys were the same. Much better and more improved now. Thanks for the stories and singing. Deerpression only last for another 7-8 months now.

    5 stars!
MeatEater and Steve Rinella needed a tax right off so they hired Dan and Reed! 🤣🤣🤣 Keep up the Good work Boys! Get Chris Stapleton on next!

    Dumpster Dan and lesser brother
Episode 63 was the best one so far, even with the whole podcast being hard to love, I can tell the boys are going down hill fast with old material only referencing Luke combs, gas station chicken, and being mad at traffic. Heck I’m mad at this podcast. Good thing Steve Rinella gave these guys a chance otherwise they’d be no one. At this point Steve is just doing charity work as a write off for them 2

    Scathing 5 Star
This podcast is a great listen if you’re looking to be a slightly below average outdoorsman and a middle of the road songwriter. One brother can only carry a tune in falsetto and the other one shows us that you can lose a bunch of weight and still be ugly. Really makes you want to give up on your dreams and stick with the desk job. Seriously though I can’t stop listening to this podcast. It’s a perfect blend of music, outdoors, and Faith. These guys have a great story and have great chemistry with all of their guests. The lil diddys are always on point and I love getting to peel back the curtain of some of my favorite artists. I’ve even started to like some artists that I didn’t like before solely because of this podcast. I have a couple of listener questions for yall if yall get some time. 1. What is your go to deer rifle and why? 2. What song have you written that you’re most proud of? Keep up the great work and God bless.

If I hear that story one more time…
I nearly cut the podcast off quicker than a scammy kershaw meet and greet after hearing once again about one of them being t bagged by their youngan. Good thing they are halfway decent at interviewing their guests and continue to bring out great stories and songs in their conversations. Or maybe they just have great guests. Regardless, I’ll keep listening to the redheaded step child of the Meateater podcast network.

    Poor decisions
Used to be a great show. Then there was a poor decision to get rid of “The one that got away”, now it’s just a good show. Still 5 stars though. Love the show!

    Steve Rinella Must Be Stopped
This podcast is way better than Steve’s. You guys deserve 5 Stars to stay on the air. Maybe Steve should consider stepping back and letting you guys, bear grease, and country life take over as the only Meat Eater podcasts 😂🤣😂keep doing yalls thing, it’s my favorite part of Tuesdays!

    Numbnuts…
Hey numbnuts, or is it numbnuts’ because I’m talking to both of y’all hillbillies? Anyway, CAMBER is the correct term for the tilt or angle of a tire and wheel, NOT canter. Canter is a gait of a horse, or something your sister does around the bases in beer league softball because she a big ol’ gal! Bros - if you stuck with me through the banter, let me just say this podcast is legit one of my favorites. Great content, awesome guests, sweet little ditties, and my favorite segment; graverite songs. Slam dunk move on your part to start having your guest throw out a few bars of said songs. I got hooked on Kassi’s rendition of “What Are You Listening To?” and can’t miss that segment since. Now that was a loin tickler, bros!!! Carry on…

Joe Rogan meets Trailer Park Boys
Probably my gravorite pod going tbh. All gas no brakes. It’s like if the MOST concussed version of Billy Bob from varsity blues grew up and convinced Luke Combs and Steve Rinella to put a beer fridge in the garage. Pull yourself up a cooler to sit on and listen to Sammy Kershaw on 11 between trail cam photos and turkey gobbles

    We all know…..
That Dan is the better hunter, Reid is the better fisherman, and neither one of them is over 5’10. Great pod boys. Keep em coming
  • dry mountain hunter
    Brothers can’t hunt.
(Squirrely Dan) and (Can’t Reid) let someone else do all the work for them, show up, shoot the deer and call themselves good hunters. What they need to be hunting is some new podcast guest because everyone is getting tired of listening to Dan talk about the “2hundo” he shot out of the truck window 3 months ago.
  • Max & Missy
    So much fun!
You guys are great story tellers and when you go on a tangent it is the best! When you interview artist’s I learn new things about them that I have never heard before and that is great! I love it when you sing with the artist at the end after the “The One That Got Away” segment”. That segment has some great stories.

I have a few podcast saved that I listen too on my way back and forth to work. But gods country is one that I don’t miss. I have been there since the start and it just keeps getting better. The crossroads of country and hunting don’t get any better than this.
