0lrak123Poor Wife AdviceLeslie, Our Feelings are Not Sovereign. You are destroying marriages with unbiblical advice.
-
navesinknicoleNOT biblical adviseIn the episode about intent, Leslie brings up the “adultery clause” in a marriage saying Jesus talks about adultery because it’s so serious then Leslie says “but I say…” adding to Gods word is a sin. James 3:1 Leslie…

Traveler6790Thanks from a husbandThe marriage categories of disappointing, difficult, and destructive were eye-opening. I felt a sense of freedom acknowledging that being in a disappointing and/or difficult marriage is universal, and is not a legitimate cause for shame or condemnation as a failure. I have to face that I have idolized my wife to the extent of being convinced that my joy and fulfillment depends on her. I have some re-wiring to do. I have hope this might result in me being a better husband. Thanks.

Dr Clark FanLeslie gets in the boat with usLeslie, I watched your Facebook live yesterday 5/29/24 with Susan & appreciate ANY & all teachers like you who share your own ongoing and current struggles with the topics you cover… like sharing taking on all the Christmas decorating & cleaning out the garage while your spouse was relaxing. One question I had and a topic I’m learning about is this; When is that “negative self talk” demonic & how do we fight the good fight against the enemy getting in our head? He is the liar & accuser & I think he accuses others to us “look how busy you are while your husband is being so lazy”. I never have been able to resolve the story of Martha… seemed to me she had a valid complaint and Jesus (kind of) gaslit her.

Jessica JokelaExcellent (but please throw off diet culture)Really appreciate the truthful, down-to-earth, spiritually empathetic and healthy information and tone of this podcast, but after listening to the purity culture episode, I have to say this: Please get informed about d i e t c u l t u r e. The church is waaay behind on this, and you’re unwittingly perpetuating it by saying things that burden the heart of women like me who struggle with eating disorders/disordered eating. 🍫Eating a chocolate bar 🍫 is 100% okay, and your women listeners ought not be implicitly shamed or guilted for doing so. Let’s try to throw off ALL the “filters of tradition and culture.” Thank you again for all the excellent content. I’m sharing it with my friends who also struggle with hard marriages❣️

jollyave“Christian” Divorce DoulaBased on the representations, you might think Leslie is here to help improve your marriage, but do not be deceived. She will lead you up to the edge of the cliff, where your choice is to continue in your unsatisfying marriage as a martyr or make the “brave” decision to separate and then divorce. Wash that man right out of your hair and fly free! Meanwhile, here in the real world, if you want to improve your marriage, look elsewhere.

Nurse-grandmaLife-changingI believe God pointed me toward Leslie Vernick‘s book, the emotionally destructive relationship at a crucial point in my life. The advice was life-changing. This podcast is a continuation of Leslie’s work, offering wisdom about how to be a God-fearing woman, embracing the call to be a woman of strength clothed with dignity.

adbick01A timely gift of a podcast.I wish I were as well spoken as Leslie Vernick to give this podcast the glowing review it deserves. The episode I’m currently reflecting on is Jennifer’s story: Surviving Coercive Control. The way she gives language to the destructive patterns in her marriage is so well-thought and heartbreaking to witness. I find language to be very empowering and she uses so many good examples here that I think many women would be able to identify with if they’ve found themselves in an oppressive marriage. The correlation I found most interesting is the concept of clergy betraying wives by enabling abusive husbands. In medicine, when a nurse/doctor steps outside of their area of expertise and gives advice, there is a phrase for that. It is “practicing outside of their scope of practice.” This can be an error punishable by incarceration depending on how egregious the event. How many women and children have suffered by seeking help and received malpractice of care from their clergy when they have attempted to practice care outside of their scope?

Ryan's girl86Super helpful!I’m finding this very helpful. I happen to be blessed with a very good marriage but I’m still finding this beneficial as I grew up up in a Christian-domestically violent/abusive home with all the “women submit and serve the man” mentality trained in. My parents were abusive to eachother and to my siblings and I. I now have two daughters and am determined with God’s help to be a chain breaker. This is very helpful for me to unlearn so many things about marriage and the woman’s role that were hammered into my head growing up and I’m learning how to have a better marriage and relationships in general through the stories and counsel. It’s also drawing me closer to God as I realize His true heartbeat for the oppressed and opening my eyes to the horrors some people deal with. Thank you so much for this podcast!

lrw870Gives me hope! After holding on as long as I could, I finally filed for divorce. Since then, I’ve struggled with fears that I’m disappointing God, as I was raised in churches that claimed “God hates divorce.” But hearing others stories so similar to mine and learning more about how a spouse with strong narcissistic tendencies manipulates and controls the relationship, I’m realizing that I’m not a bad person for leaving a very dysfunctional marriage. It was not a relationship that honored God in any way! Here’s to healing and moving on after 34 years! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

AAnnesleyLittle disappointedHello I am a new listener to this podcast and have been listening to the most recent podcasts Today I jumped down to hear the older podcasts Today I’m listening to # 3 and I’m disappointed by some of the comments made “That would last only about 5 minutes in my home “ What were you thinking!!” He must have had something you had 8 kids with him “You would have submitted to that”. roseannforteSo much TRUTH!These podcasts give exactly what the podcast is labeled: Unfiltered truth about how to deal with and navigate toxic relationships that make us feel like we are losing our minds! Thank you for being such an inspiration and leader in this area. These topics can be sometimes difficult to discuss and come to terms with and the importance of understanding that this is NOT what God intended is a critical first step to healing.

Run4chocolateGrateful for this podcast♥️I found Leslie Vernick’s book, The Emotionally Destructive Marriage several years ago while searching for help in my marriage. Her honest advice was different than the Christian counselor’s advice I was receiving. I felt like she really understood what I was dealing with. I am so happy that she has a podcast now. Hopefully this podcast will reach even more women who may need guidance and support.
-
2Bfreeis worthitSo good! And so helpful!Leslie has a lot of relationship wisdom & experience to share. She gives a Biblical view that counteracts the unhealthy, harmful “biblical” advice & teachings that are damaging women in destructive marriages.
-
curlyheadnvaWise CouncilLeslie gives wise godly advise. I would highly recommend her podcast.

cig2Episode 3 👎I have followed Leslie for years, read all of her books, & joined her groups. She is a breath of fresh air for hurting women who need Biblical truth about marriage. I just listened to Episode 3 & was very disappointed in it. It was uncomfortable to listen to. The counselor who interviewed the guest was not compassionate or kind or gentle with her. The counselor did not call out the guests courage & bravery & hard work to get out of her abusive marriage. The guest was married at 17 & couldn’t have a lot of wisdom about life at this young age. It felt like the counselor was insinuating “How could you be so stupid to do this/believe this….” and I found that very uncomfortable to listen to. Leslie, this specific episode & counselor does not represent your heart or your ministry well.
-
Truth Seeker12Clarity!Leslie’s podcast and wisdom is life giving to women of faith enduring, breaking free-from, and/or recovering from destructive relationships. She uses the full council of God’s word as it applies to relationships to uncover ways we have misunderstood (or have been taught erroneously) God’s teachings.
-
je& deIndifferenceLeslie and her biblical principles led me out of 36 years of indifference in a marriage to a full incredible life I have now
-
Journey to JoyAmazing insight from an expert!Leslie Vernick has both the clinical background and the Biblical knowledge to give wise counsel on how to deal with emotionally destructive relationships. She is able to give Biblical grounds and wisdom to help women end destructive marriages. The church unfortunately has too often failed strong Christian women and kept them stuck in abusive marriages at all costs. Leslie’s balanced approach and keen insight is a voice that needs to be heard, especially in the Christian church.
-
Tess.TruthThank you!Thank you Leslie for doing a podcast for women that are struggling and have been submitting and Christian faith for so long!

everoebuckIntroductionThe introduction was so good, I really wanted to hear Leslie go ahead and begin! Looking forward to the first full-length episode. This is so needed and so grass roots. Besides a relationship with Jesus, there’s nothing more foundational in our communities and cultures than solid, healthy relationships between spouses. Thank you, Leslie.

MamaG2313Leslie has helped me so much!Going through divorce is never easy! Add the title of Pastor’s wife to that, married 41 years and heap the shame of leaving your Pastor/husband on to that. Leslie’s ministry was and still is a life saver for me. I look forward to hearing what her podcasts will cover!

Brooke-24Personal ExperienceI am SO excited for this podcast! I have been in a destructive marriage and questioning whether or not it was biblical for me to divorce my husband and what God had to say about what to do with the marriage relationship I was in. Leslie’s teaching’s and Conquer course for women, really opened my eyes to what God had to say about my situation and has allowed me to grow deeper into the Godly woman I am called to be. Her teachings have been THE MOST impactful and influential in the hardest season in my life. Her biblical understanding has been fundamentally encouraging and freeing in my faith and walk with Christ. Especially when the pastor of my church told me to just love more, forgive more and support more after seeing what seemed like remorseful apologies even though the same patterns of destruction continued. Leslie’s teachings have empowered me in my walk with Christ by creating a deeper understanding of God’s heart for me and my relationships with those around me. I am beyond grateful for the wisdom/ insight God has given to Leslie for her to then be able to share with us.
-

conniejoaLeslie is the most gifted speaker, coach, author, woman of God I have ever learned from.Thank you Leslie for your podcast now too. Your message is so valuable. I am excited to devour the content of this new podcast right along side with all your other teachings. I have sought Christian counsel, attended church, read books, joined groups my entire adult life, yet none have changed me for the better and reframed my life at the speed and in the way your teachings have. God has blessed you with wisdom and you shares it well! God bless you and keep you and continue to shine His face upon you.
