There is so much history in PTown. I feel that lesbians which in the 1980 had a strong present. It was the best summer of my life at 19. The show seems to lack depth. You are very talented.

Journey of sound and community! Great listen
I’ve listened to almost every podcast on Apple. I love the episodes that have the ability to immerse me in the lives of those being interviewed or explored in each episode. This podcast was so captivating in this beautifully simple way; it's a vibrant exploration of sound, culture, and community. GREAT SOUND QUALITY! Clear but love the small nuances heard perfectly. The host does a great job drawing out stories that are both personal and universally relatable, particularly from the queer community in Provincetown. These interviews are not just conversations; they call diversity, they provide a unique glimpse into a community rich in culture and history.

    Fantastic
As a retired gay man in his late 60s who hasn’t been to gay Mecca P-town in over 35 years (but spent the decade prior religiously visiting), THANK YOU for bringing me back to my youth & giving voice to the stories of so many. My perception at the time (80s) was P-town was one of the few LGBTQ retreats where lesbians shared equitable space with gay men to the benefit of both communities. I hope that’s still true. With their participation, narrator and facilitator Mitra Kaboli and contributors Cookie, Emily, Kristen at Summer of Sass, and others give strong evidence it is, even if some of them give voice to the narrative it is not. I could taste, smell and feel Provincetown all over again in this podcast and at times wept with overwhelming emotion for some of the same experiences. Guess I need to revisit P-town to get my LGBTQ license renewed. Thank you to all involved with this project.

Not the full face of Ptown
This was a fun listen as I am someone who has spent 2wks a year there for over a decade. I was disappointed (as a lesbian) at all of the complaints of lack of women. She didn’t even bother mentioning bear week which is the absolute friendliest week there and as a woman I have never felt more welcome and loved but I guess that didn’t fit her narrative. Overall good podcast

    Love this podcast!
I have enjoyed listening to this podcast. I’ve visited Provincetown a handful of times and the energy floating around is contagious. The interviews/stories shared in this podcast touched me and I’m curious to know “where are they now?” Excellent work!

Well produced but forced at times
This is a well produced and written podcast about Provincetown. The look into the lives of those folx at the “end of the world” was insightful and endearing. The story did feel a little forced at times into a certain narrative, like when the host lamented the lack of women when there are plenty of women just not in the same spaces most of the podcast subjects are.

    Misogyny?
This town is a haven for lesbians. I spent my honeymoon in P-Town at a charming lesbian-owned B&B. Lesbian moms enjoy safety and affirmation with their kids. This podcast uses the word lesbian once that I heard and only to say that the narrator described a scarcity of lesbians and when she did see them, they were ‘twins’. This represents a special kind of misogyny. Whether or not you agree, I challenge you to at least think about it.
  • Deadfin
    Host’s monotone voice
The host’s narration is annoying monotone, but maybe that’s not surprising. All millennial women seem to talk like monotone robots with no personality today.
  • Didacticology
    Homosexual cliches abound
I suppose if one were into the gay erotic scene, one might enjoy her task of reporting about the gay sweaty party. But I couldn’t even make it through 5 minutes. Maybe I’ve been watching too much prime.

    Good look at Provincetown
As someone who has visited P-Town many times over the years I was highly entertained by this podcast. It isn’t exactly a historical look at how P-Town came to be, it’s more a look at what it is. The features about individuals who live, thrive, struggle, and help others was well done.

How many times does the word LIKE need to be said? 20 minutes in and I couldn't take it anymore, I wanted to put a dull pencil through my brain to stop the pain.

    Donate to Summer of Sass!
We love P-town and are fortunate to live within driving distance. I know the challenges of affordable housing on Cape Cod, the ‘new’ money that is buying up property and driving out the working class. Summer of Sass is a wonderful program that deserves more funding (and a house!) Thanks for a great listen. I hope there is a ‘season 2’ in the works!

    Yes!
I grew up in Provincetown in the 1980s and was immediately defensive when I found this podcast. I thought there was no way an “outsider” could understand the magic, tradition and harsh realities that make this place home to a small handful of people yearround. Mitra did her homework and nailed it. Her reporting shows depth, compassion and genuine curiosity about what a summer in Provincetown entails, including and especially the yearly phenomenon of August burnout. Most impressive were her interviews with longtime local artist Jay Critchley and knowledge of the late writer/actor Cookie Mueller. Thank you, Mitra, for capturing the spirit of the mishmash of misfits and colorful characters who call Provincetown home.

    The inside story
I’ve been a part-time resident of the outer Cape for 20 years. Year round we often take the 30 minute drive out to PTown for an afternoon/evening of strolling, shopping, dinner. As a cis, straight humxn I appreciated this inside story on a community I enjoy visiting and deeply respect. Would enjoy future episodes.

    ⭐️ Mitra…More Please!!! ⭐️
I stumbled across this when it was slotted into another pod I listen to and feel like I just found a $100.00 bill while doing laundry. The host and her producer sound like they’ve been doing this well for 30 years, though clearly not. Obviously, this season will appeal to my fellow LGBTQ+ travelers, but I expect it will find a broader audience. Warm, honest, human, educational, funny and heartbreaking in spots. Come on in, the water’s warm.

An outstanding podcast in every way.
A very well produced podcast about a unique place in this world that’s as weird as it’s beautiful. Hearing from those that live there gives the listener a view of P-town few ever get to see. Only those that have lived there, even for a short time, can understand that place but this podcast is the next best thing. Thank you to the creators of this series for shining a warm, gentle and kind light on the people living in that special place.

    Just wow!
What an incredible podcast. I binged this one. I laughed, I cried, and I want another season! As someone that grew up visiting P-town with my conservative family, this was an entirely different perspective from the quaint, artsy town I experienced in my youth (yes, it can be family friendly!). But even then as a closeted queer kid, I felt a deep sense of home- these were my people- and this podcast conjured that long lost feeling for me. A beautifully and artfully told story.

    Solid Production
I was shocked to hear how many people were a part of this podcast and it shows. Solid story telling. Big fan 👏👏👏

    Mitra gets it
So thankful for the time and energy Mitra and the whole team put into getting to know the people and place. Few take the time to dig deep the way she does, and even fewer dare to be they vulnerable about their own experiences while reporting. Kudos!

Summer on the Shore with Gorge(ous and memorable humans)
I have yet to visit P-Town in real life (certainly a major bucket list item for me), so until then, this series will have to do. And it's a great stand in - at least for someone who hasn't been yet. The various cast of "characters" that populate this show, seem to me to be a fairly good encapsulation of the diverse and vibrant makeup of those who summer in Provincetown. If anything, this show just makes me want to go even more. And on top of all that, it's just a well produced podcast. Everything from the flow of the slightly fractured narrative to the inclusion of various beach-town-esque sounds. If you can't get yourself to your favorite seaside vacation spot this summer, this show should at least help scratch the itch. And warm your heart along the way. 🌈

If you like reality tv, you’ll like this podcast
I can’t recommend this show more. Mitra is such an incisive host and the local characters she gets to know are so entertaining (and moving)! I truly am enjoying learning about PTown.

Effortless writing, immersive sound design, authentically told. Great deep dive into a unique summer community. I can feel the wind and salt and hustle and hope. Can’t wait to hear more!
  • Periwinkle2424
Obsessed. Please say more episodes are coming.
Just like P-town, this podcast is easy, fun, beachy, arty, campy, super queer, and more than the sum of its parts. Listen and enjoy!

    Love love love
This show is such a breath of fresh air; it's unlike anything else in my feed which I LOVE. So far, it's the aural equivalent of an addictive summer beach read that surprises you with sophisticated writing and narrative depth. I'm also so invested in the characters already. What will they learn? How will they change? Will they have a good summer??? (Feels like my own summer is riding on this too.) I cannot wait for the next episode to drop.

I’m absolutely hooked. Love these people, love this town, and I’m all the way across the country. So excited for this kind of in depth, small town journalism!

As poignant as it is fun!
It’s like being transported to the beach and meeting really fun, thoughtful, struggling, wonderfully messy, beautiful people along the way. Great writing and “voice” to it as well.

    A delight
It’s only two episodes in, but already this podcast is a must-listen. If you’re an LGBT person, or even just curious about what this small town means to so many people, give it a listen. You won’t be let down.

    Intrigued!
Have listened to the first two episodes and love how this is set up thus far. The host is going on her own personal journey while also following some really interesting people in this special community in the corner of the US. Can tell a lot of love went into making this show with some incredible production / sound design. Can’t wait for more episodes!
  • kt is my nickname
