junebug6770When it’s good….I’ve recently rewatched Mad Men (again) and thought this would be a good re-cap and it is, when they actually re-cap the show. While it’s natural to relate your experience with that of a character, Marge takes it to another level and it feels as though this is a podcast about her life with a little Mad Men thrown in. In every show she tells us that she is 1 - from New Orleans, 2- Italian , 3- a nerd and 4- Catholic as if it is the first time sharing this information. I find myself skipping through all of the chatter which is most of the show. Additionally, Marge constantly speaks over Frances, says “um” all throughout and does not use pronouns correctly which is surprising as she is an educator. All of that aside, when they discuss the show, it is fabulous. The attention to detail and clear love of the women on the show is delightful.

UobbuigPretty GoodI just rewatched Mad Men and was looking for a recap show and found this one. Mostly I enjoy it but I feel I know waaaay too much about the personal lives of the hosts. I know about their husbands, children, grandparents, aunties, uncles, religious backgrounds, preferred foods. I fast forward through these tedious anecdotes. But some episodes have a ridiculous ratio of filler/personal anecdotes to actual content. One spends minutes naming Catholic Churches the hosts have heard of. The recap, when they get to it, is detailed and observant. This could be a great podcast if the hosts would nix the personal stuff. I spend too much time skipping for it to be a good listen.

MemereezyMad Men but About the LadiesI look forward to this podcast and enjoy the insights of Marge and Frances. I’ve rewatched Mad Men more times than I could count and I like their analysis. The podcast is definitely an amateur production. They break down an episode over two podcast episodes, and often times they could be more concise. I agree with other viewers that sometimes things are being googled in real time or regurgitated from Wikipedia. However, Marge and Frances are both likable and have a good conversational style. I appreciate how they elaborate on the lives of the female characters. I also appreciate how they point out the various oppressions and forms of discrimination that occurred during the time period and often give some historical information about how civil rights have progressed.

myhistorycanbeatupyourpoliticsFun and Informative, Tangents IncludedI like the show. Good to get your perspective on things. As a male, the feminist perspective is good to get b/c otherwise it's a show about a guy named Don who has a rough life. Just one suggestion - don't mind it being more Marge than Frances, pretty normal in radio or podcasts for one host to 'lead' but just watch that Frances has her time when she has the floor, per se. I don't mind the tangents maybe it's me. Like hearing about new orleans and various women.

EileenmarathonInteresting take that adds dimensionI love this show, and I enjoy this podcast a lot. I must be much older because so much is a surprise to the hosts, but they’re learning and teaching and I appreciate the point of view. My only tiny gripe is hearing “yeah, no” from the American host several times an episode. This contradictory colloquialism is not charming or sensical in large doses. But I’m annoying too so I get it. I don’t mind the length at all, I love hearing more about the show.

Eliza Beth8Good but not greatI want to love this podcast but just can’t. Content is good and I like the level of detail in breaking down the episodes but a few things could definitely be improved upon… Marge consistently talks over her co-host and very often doesn’t let Frances finish a thought. Each episode of the show takes them about 2-3 hours to dissect, mostly because Marge goes off on tangents about her own life that aren’t that interesting to the listener. Lastly, while the idea of the “Woman of note” is great, it’s simply Marge regurgitating the Wikipedia page of that week’s person and I’ve gotten into the habit of simply skipping forward until she’s done. So, while I do enjoy a lot of their takes on the characters and the plot, about 45 min of each 90 min episode comes across as filler.

KidsKeepOutOfMyItunesThe best Mad Men podcast!!!!Several months ago, I asked for recommendations for a Mad Men “rewatch” type podcast in a MM Facebook group. That’s when I got recommendations for several different shows. It was kind of like Goldilocks and The Three Bears trying to find one that was just right. I love Mad Men and it’s one of my favorite shows. To the point where my son hears the theme song and asks “Are you watching Mad Men AGAIN?!?” It was important to me to find a podcast that treated the show with reverence as well as the pivotal historical events that are referenced in the show. One show I tried was like a crash course. Another I tried and liked at first but the hosts spent too much time giggling and really didn’t know the show that well or events in American history and didn’t bother to research before their shows. Have I mentioned I’m a major American history nerd? I digress. Anyways, I love Frances and Marge and their dynamic. The more episodes they do the more they find their groove. These ladies know the show and they know the era. I love getting the British perspective on things and hearing certain colloquialisms and sayings! One of my favorite parts is the Woman of Note segment. I can tell it’s heart work for Marge. I always learn something new and as a teacher by trade I wholeheartedly agree about hidden figures. Today’s Annie Glenn segment was so phenomenal I knew I had to finally write a review! I love how the show is a retrospective and we are able to compare and contrast character development. It’s a superfan’s show for sure! I also have a massive girl crush on Joan as a redhead myself as in I want to be her when i grow up and despise Pete Campbell. Keep up the amazing work ladies! I am happy to have the opportunity to support you on Patreon!!!!

lobo92345Feisty and feminist!Love the feminine perspective these two bring to one of my favorite shows. The featured woman each week is such a great addition to already excellent recaps! Cannot wait to hear the rest of the series as it’s done!
