We Can Do Hard Things

34,248

Life is freaking hard. We are all doing hard things every single day – things like loving and losing; caring for children and parents; forging and ending friendships; battling addiction, illness, and loneliness; struggling in our jobs, our marriages, and our divorces; setting boundaries; and fighting for equality, purpose, freedom, joy, and peace.
On We Can Do Hard Things, Glennon Doyle, author of UNTAMED; her wife Abby Wambach; and her sister Amanda Doyle do the only thing they’ve found that has ever made life easier: Drop the fake and talk honestly about the hard things including sex, gender, parenting, blended families, bodies, anxiety, addiction, justice, boundaries, fun, quitting, overwhelm . . . all of it.
We laugh and cry and help each other carry the hard so we can all live a little bit lighter and braver, free-er, less alone.

Thema Bryant is the doc we need!
The most recent episode with Dr. Thema Bryant is a treasure trove. She is the wise guide we need now. I just finished listening to it and I am headed back in for an immediate relisten. Just after I text it to my peeps. Thank you! 💗

    This podcast is necessary
I am a white straight male and I have to say that this is one of the most important podcasts I have ever come across. My wife first introduced me years ago and, as an already huge fan of Abby’s soccer career, I decided to start with an audio of Glennon’s Untamed and was immediately hooked. And not because I “agreed” with everything but because it challenged me to really think about the constraints that many people live within. This podcast has made me laugh, cry, hate myself and love myself. You three are my f-ing heroes. Please continue your work forever

    Appreciate You
As a disabled person, that episode meant more than you can know. Or maybe you do know. You probably know.

    Life-Encouraging
I’m so grateful for this podcast! I love that Abby, Glennon and Amanda share their own life lessons in ways that are vulnerable and honest. It’s so life-encouraging!

    I need my Thursday update!
I am so so grateful for the Thursday episodes with Jill. When they are missing, I feel a big hole in my information intake. Thank you for these helpful weekly updates!!

Like the early days of the pod
Can Hillary just be your guest on every episode plz?? So much good in this most recent conversation with her and brought me back to the early episodes of the We Can Do Hard Things podcast. Btw I didn’t stick my hands in the grass after I finished listening but I did go out and pick my first bunch of parsley this year. Keep up the great work!

    Leftist and Biased
What I thought was going to be a great show about life, parenting, relationships, etc. has turned into a left-leaning, Trump bashing based on misinformation. Could we NOT bring politics into a good podcast?? So very disappointing. 😕

    listen, learn and grow
These women and their guests are truly relatable. Not only are they funny and educational but they’re passionate, filled with integrity and making a positive change in our world. Do yourself a favor and check them out. Also the news with Jessica Yellin on Thursday’s is the best source of reliable news these days.

    Raw, wise, and deeply human
It just hits in all the right places—raw, wise, and deeply human. Glennon, Abby, and Amanda’s conversations are a lifeline for anyone learning to trust themselves, navigate big transitions, and rewrite their story with courage and truth.

    Great guests
They’re all three phenoms in their own right, and the bring people on the show that teach. It’s also often funny. I’ve learned a lot.

    Spin-off News Pod, please!
I have been a listener from the beginning. And I am LOVING Amanda and Jessica’s weekly news recaps. Please keep these going! These episodes are a must-listen. I’d love to hear you two on even more news/politics/culture topics.

    Amanda and Jessica Yellin
Hi ladies, I sooo appreciate these pods about what is going on in this country. I love the WCDHT podcast in general. So many self help-type pods do not address the elephant in the room ……..that our country is embracing a fascist president …. Maybe they are worried about losing listeners? I love that you all are speaking about this because it’s terrible and we need to stay informed. So many of my friends say” I just ignore the news cause it’s too upsetting”……….we can’t ignore this! I keep taking my deep breaths first but I won’t stick my head in the sand…….thank you Amanda and Jessica, please continue to keep us in the loop!!!

    Wonderful Podcast
This podcast is helping me get through my Depression due to the Trump Administration, while still covering lighter topics that are always interesting. (And give me a break from the injustices that are taking place in our world.

    Used to be better
Way too political now. Even the episodes that aren’t politically centered, they find a way to bring politics into it. Need a break from this one for a while. Hopefully it’ll get better again in the future.

    Uninformed Opinions Masquerading as Wisdom
This podcast has become a soapbox for shallow takes dressed up as deep insight. It’s like brunch banter where no one’s done the homework but these girls think they’re changing the world. If you’re looking for nuance, accountability, or anything grounded in reality—look elsewhere.

    Heart Exploding
I love this podcast. I discovered Glennon when I was newly getting sober and was so excited to find a writer that I loved who also was Sober and hear about her experience. Then I went on the whole Untamed journey. Then when the podcast started and Abby and Amanda joined. Amanda is a rock star Abby I mean cmon! It’s just so fun and moving and helpful. And now I am listening to the Ocean Vuong episode and I am just over the moon. This episode is so beautiful. I feel so grateful for all the work this podcast introduces me to. And I just love them so much.

    Yes we can!
This podcast gets me through life right now. I found it during a really hard time this year. And as I navigate along and hit all the bumps life throws at me I’m grateful that I can tune into and hear about others navigating as well through their lives and it feels like I’m listening to my people! Finally I found others who feel like I do and I enjoy each episode so much!

    Found again
I’m so happy to have found this podcast again! Episode 209 with the Bishop is a favorite so far. Thank you, for being a calming voice in these turbulent times. I also have been enjoying catching up with the Best Of episodes. 💜

3 wealthy white women have thoughts
Used to love the pod. The recent fire episode was out of touch and solely focused on Glennon’s feelings about the fires and not… actual people who have been impacted… you all are so out of touch with reality and with how regular people live and what pain and loss is like. Maybe educate yourselves and gain some perspective from people different than you. Having zero possessions and no home doesn’t feel beautiful Glennon. Read the room. Some of us have to work and not all of us are as wealthy as you Used to love the pod but it has changed and feels out of touch and a little culty. I’m worried you are encouraging people to behave poorly- it’s okay to be a sociopath, it’s okay to self isolate, it’s okay to ignore all family and friends. This is uneducated advice and you’re just giving permission for people to act terribly and blame it on psychology.

    Used to Listen More!
Enjoy so much from this podcast and the perspectives shared! But count me among those annoyed by the (best of’s), and the news additions. I so appreciate Jessica Yellin, but I want to choose it vs. having it automatically downloaded in this stream. I’ve started avoiding We Can Do Hard Things for those reasons. I’m protecting when I take in news content, so I don’t want to automatically listen to a news related podcast. I’ve already listened to the “best-of”’s that are interesting, but if it’s not super relevant to me, I enjoyed the learning the first time but don’t need to relive it. It’s starting to feel like false abundance. And I don’t want to sort through it, so I’ve sadly fallen off as a listener. Just wanted to share in case it matters, otherwise best of luck for all it works for!

    This podcast is everything
This podcast helps me process personal life challenges, and it also gives me strength and clarity to get through current political events. I recommend it to all my friends.

    Relatable and hilarious
I just love these three women and their entertaining takes on everyday parts of life. Listening to this podcast is my favorite way to start or end a work day during the commute.

    Too many words
Thank you. Just thank you so so much. Being someone who is usually articulate and has a million things to say about everything, my best compliment to the three of you is you’ve changed my life. I carry Untamed with me everywhere. I have notes and highlights throughout. I send it to all my girlfriends as a gift. I am an adhd, funny laid back weirdo woman married to an anxious, obsessive beautiful woman; we salute you and we love you.

    Like listening to good friends
Love this podcast- these hosts make me laugh; let me know I’m not alone; and I swear they can read my mind. The (best of) Pet Peeves episode had my husband and I nodding in agreement. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us!

    Therapeutic & Helpful
This is my favorite show! It makes me laugh, cry, and think deeply (which I love as a fellow enneagram 4, empath, and highly sensitive person.) Glennon, Abby, & Amanda are like my therapists outside of therapy, though in therapy my therapist and I talk about this show every session! Thank you to everyone involved in the making of this show for all you do!

  • Hi! It’s Me…
    Changes in Podcast 😔
I have listened to the podcast since day one. It has changed my life in many meaningful ways. Thank you forever and ever. The changes as of this past year though…more and more ads/commercials, the introduction of the calm news, and so many “best of” episodes…what is happening to our pod??? it feels like you all have moved away from the original intention of the podcast and it makes me feel sad. I know things have to change in life and in the world, but changing this podcast is not one I ever wanted to have to experience. 😔😔😔 Not slamming the pod, just offering my observations and feedback. I will forever be indebted to you three for positive learning and growth because of this podcast. So, no matter what direction it goes in at least we will always have the original three years.

I love everything you do because your humor, honesty, and authenticity make me feel like I am connected to a community of beautiful, deeply precious souls. And thank you to Amanda and Jessica for your Thursday updates. You have not only helped me stay up to date calmly but this weekly show has become something I really look forward to each week, both of which I am so grateful for. Please please keep doing these Thursday updates. Just hearing jessica and Amanda each week makes me hopeful.

    Life Hack Feedback
Great show over all but I CRINGED when the woman talked about telling gusts a time to go home. That’s Sooo American in a bad way. If it’s a close friend and you HAVE to leave at a certain time to get to a class etc ok but “guests”?! I’ve lived in Europe and Mexico and if you did that people would hate you. It’s all about slow food, conversation, quality time. It may end early or take hours. That American work/grind/repeat is sad. Thank God I left that country and culture. Thanks for what you all do.
  • SuzWN
    Oh the ads
Good content but 4-1/2 minutes of ads just to get started, plus long ads throughout. Is there a limit, or will this podcast continue to push more and more ads on its loyal listeners just because they can?

    HFC seeking Recovery!
Thank you for the HFC episodes with Teri Cole. Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am a HFC !!! I just celebrated my 50 th Birthday, and I have been reflecting on my life. I want to break free from people pleasing, and over functioning! I am exhausted, I can’t do it anymore! I want to experience less stress, and more joy! These 2 episodes have changed my life. I feel excited to set boundaries and stay on my side of the street, and practice the 24 hour rule for making decisions. I truly feel like Glennon and I share a brain! P.S. Thanks for recommending “Dying for Sex” in your newsletter, Seriously, so good, the beauty of their friendship was just so beautiful, and when she invited the “dog” to the hospital, I thought I would pee my pants! Lol 🤣I wish I could sit and chat with you, Abby and Amanda, I know you all would love me! 😉

    Slooooow Doooown
Let me start by saying this show has changed my life and relationships (especially my relationship TO my relationships) for the better. I have taken so many valuable messages with me into the world, I have used episodes as starting points for really tough conversations with my partner, and I have moved through the transition of becoming a new mom with you incredible people in my ear. These things are all true, AND I feel that the pace of episode production has become unsustainable. It’s so much content, so fast, that quality control can’t last. I fear the show could start moving into Oprah territory, where grifters with unresearched backgrounds and questionable motives (usually to sell their book or their lifestyle or their program) are given a platform. Sure, every guest has a kernel of truth to share, but what are they selling along with it? I urge the team to slow down and critically evaluate the content and the context of each guest with something closer to academic rigor. Thank you for reading. I value and appreciate all you have given me and so many others.

The Podcast That Got Me into Podcasts
This podcast has helped me become a better mother, wife, sister, friend, thinker, feeler, citizen, human. Completely changed my life, no exaggeration.

News done in a way I never thought it could be done
The episodes with Amanda and Jessica Yellin are the most clear, stable, resourced, easy-to-understand discussions about current event. The hosts two incredibly smart and informed women. I love the undertone of hope, and the message of being able —in community— to steer things in the right direction. It’s (political) news done in a way I never thought it could be done. Thank you so much, Amanda and Jessica.
  • JessSings!
    Thank you!
Thank you so much for your beautiful and kind way to share so many difficult conversations and news stories. It helps all of us process, find encouragement, and hope. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and wisdom!
  • laurenasays
    Long time listener
I used to love this podcast and feel like it provided so much value. I used to listen to every episode. Lately, it has become really political and news focused - it’s really become a different podcast with “best of” replays interspersed. Sad to see the change up on listeners. The content used to be relatable, comforting, and empowering. Sadly will be moving on to other content at this point.

    I’m Obsessed
Love the topics covered in this pod, and love the dynamic between Glennon, Abby and Amanda. Feels like sitting down with good friends for coffee and meaningful conversations.

The episodes on High Functioning Codependents and one on being left out shook me to my core. Thank you for giving my pain a name

    Fabulous!
My daughter told me about this great Podcast that she listens to and said I’d really like it and she was RIGHT! I love you women and your down to earth, very, very smart voices are a breath of fresh air. I just listened to the Kelly Clarkson episode and now I love her too! Thanks so much for breathing life into my stale Pod lineup!

    Perhaps some alchemy here…
I did not want to like this podcast. I do not know why I did not want to like this podcast, but I did not want to like it. Well, I do not like it. I freaking love it. I did not know any of the people involved in the podcast, other than a guest or two, when I was looking for something to listen to in the car. Now, I actually follow this podcast and am working my way through the older episodes. Perhaps this podcast surfaced at a time when I needed to hear some of the things that were being said. I do not know if the episodes would have resonated with my younger self. At 50, I get it. As a divorced person from a 20 year marriage, I get it. As a woman, I get it. Life, grief, love, death, trying to be comfortable in my own skin…all the things are covered. Sometimes, it is an uncomfortable episode, guest, or comment that sits in my thoughts for hours/days afterward. Sometimes, Glennon says something that I was thinking. Sometimes, Amanda makes so much sense in the moment that the synchronicity is dazzling. Sometimes, Abby comments in a way that makes me wonder if we are related (after all, we were born on the same day/different year and in the same town). Sometimes, a guest will tell a story that makes me think they read my journal. Or, all of these things happen. I will most likely never meet these three women, but I connect with what they say, how they struggle, and what they learn. Our lives are very different…except we are all dealing with living in the best way we can. Listening feels familiar, and it makes me remember that I am not alone in this journey, even when I am the only one I see.
