successionalforestHighly recommendIf you’re interested in the sustainability of our agricultural systems, or where your food comes from, or which spices in your cabinet are shown scientifically to prove beneficial for the gut microbiome, or any number of other food-and-medicine topics, this podcast is for you. Our favorite all-time tip was that the benefits of turmeric root are greatly enhanced when it is combined with black pepper! Now my husband always mixes the two in his cooking. This podcast is recommended for gardeners, foodies, fermenters, permies, and anyone interested in the huge world of ethnobotany. (And check out the recent episode about a woman who lived for 23 years in the Arctic, 500 miles from the nearest town.)

BirdieLuvrMini LessonsVery excited to have this podcast on my list! Just recently discovered Dr. Quave’s work and am delighted to see the development of this podcast. The knowledge in these short episodes is quite dense; this might be a show I take notes on...but it’s perfect if you’re in the mood to learn something new (in depth) and come away with a better understanding of how science, nature, and human history play a role in our use of these foods. Adding music and little blips of fun facts should help keep audiences more engaged too.
