Trying to destroy a non binary PIONEER in the fat acceptance movement to look cool. Riding a hate train is wrong too. Not into it.

Great content without toxic diet culture

They talk about the whole picture
SUCH a refreshing point of view. Cristina and Dana play off of each other in such an great way. They’ve each worked in the restriction-based functional medicine industry where they realized that even being too “healthy” is a bad thing. They discuss nutrition related issues with nuance and awareness of all sides of the issue.

    Hosted a migraine quack
As someone who overcame over a decade of disabling chronic migraines through actual medicine, I know how hard it can be to find good evidence-based treatments and prevention from the mainstream medical system. But that doesn’t mean the quackery and related testing this doc recommends is the solution! She was shoveling one woo woo idea after another with no indication to listeners how far off the scientific evidence base she’s flying. I feel genuinely bad for anyone suffering with headaches like I did being led down the guest’s quackery rabbit holes. My migraines can be influenced by what I eat, so I have no issue with RDs undertaking this topic, but they should choose a credible source. Functional medicine started with one controversial doc out of Cleveland Clinic and still has absolutely no medical organization of physicians behind it. There’s no, for example, organization analogous to the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) or American Academy of Neurology. And it’s not because mainstream medicine doesn’t look to prevention as well as treatment. The ACLM, for example, focuses heavily on prevention. I’d like to see some of the ideas promoted by this podcast generally integrated into medical practice, so it’s unfortunate the hosts decided to give this quack a platform. Suffering people are vulnerable to misinformation, especially when coming from a podcast where they generally feel heard and supported. It can be hard for laypeople to know what’s credible advice, but I expect more from the hosts of this podcast.

Real talk (for real) & inspirational
Dana has been in my ear each week since the whole 30 days, and I’ve had a similar evolution, from orthorexia to freedom, with the help of this podcast. Real talk, indeed, this podcast is exactly what we need to combat diet-culture and find some peace and relaxation with our body: physical, emotional, and mental. You had me at “disaster pants” 😂🤣😆 Keep up the great work!!!

Awesome information! I live how real you are too...especially the way you tell it like it is!

    Not safe for young ears
I greatly appreciated the podcast on inflammation as I was driving my kids to and from until my six-year-old son overheard words that I don’t want him to repeat. Is that really necessary? Your content doesn’t seem like it needs this language and it unnecessarily alienates any of us listening with kids in earshot. This may seem silly until you have a child.

    Frankly Discusses Food Issues
Very real hosts who frankly discusses issues with food. Dana covers a variety of helpful topics to manage inappropriate eating. Very well done podcast.

    Great info
I love how Dana questions the norms of the culture and just tries to get to the bottom of what is really the best for our bodies and our lives. I don’t always agree 100% with every single thing, but I really appreciate the content that she presents. I have learned a ton, and I look forward to listening to this podcast regularly.

    Love her new direction!
I want to acknowledge Dana for speaking up for what she believes in and pivoting in her business so boldly! It’s not always easy to make changes, let alone do them publicly with the world ready to judge and critique you. I love the new direction of helping others heal their relationship with food and bodies ♥️

Thank you for being the voice we needed to hear
Dana’s recent podcast episodes as a result of her shift in business have been truly life changing. I’ve been following her blog and Instagram since 2016 when I did my first Whole30. As someone who has had a pattern of disordered eating, thinking, and self-confidence, her emphasis on healing your relationship with your body and food and shifting away from an emphasis on diet culture and weight loss has made me a happier, healthier, and more confident person. I am so grateful to her for her insight and for helping me break free from the fort culture that has been gripping me since I was in elementary school.

Everyone needs to listen to this podcast
Dana, I absolutely LOVE that you’re starting this new chapter of your podcast. These topics are so ridiculously important for women to hear. Too many people are stuck in the diet cycle and eating disorders, myself included. The world needs more people like Dana to help others fix their relationship with food and themselves!

    Completely true
I’ve completed 4 rounds of Whole 30 and it has made me realize what foods I cannot tolerate, yet made things worse in finding my “food freedom.” I too notice the changes with the program as it’s evolved and find that it no longer suits my health needs. I am so glad you see this as well and have created a podcast that allows people to see a flip side to the program. I appreciate your honesty and not bashing the program because, if done correctly, is an amazing tool to help reset your body and can lead to a food freedom. Wonderfully done Dana.

    Always love it!
I’ve been listening to Dana’s podcast since it started and each podcast is exactly what I need to hear! There’s so much information floating around the internet about dieting and how to change our bodies to fit a desired expectation, but I so appreciate Dana calling all of that out for what it is. The podcast has been a big part of my journey overcoming an unhealthy relationship with food and myself, and I am so thankful for it! On top of all that good stuff, the podcast is funny, enjoyable to listen to, has great guests, AND is full of all kinds of Harry Potter love - you can’t beat it!

Thanks for being real & honest & vulnerable
I can’t wait to follow along in your new journey

New follower who is recovering from disordered eating
I found Dana on Instagram and loved her mindset on food positivity. Then through watching her stories I learned she had a podcast. I purged and binged for 12 years and have been in recovery for 10 years now. I have done the whole30 and love it but it made me even more anxious about my food choices. I struggle with the yes and no list of foods and am working hard on letting myself just eat real food without any guilt. I love that Dana is taking her personal and professional experience to further her business to help others like me have a positive mindset around food. Let’s all work on ending diet culture together! Thankful I found you and I look forward to healing even more by surrounding myself with likeminded professionals like you.

Thank you for saying what I’ve been thinking!
Totally agree that the Whole30 has evolved and changed into something much different than originally intended. It was such a useful learning tool for me, but I also struggle(d) with ALL of the same concerns you’re expressing. Thank you for saying out loud what I’ve been thinking for some time. I’m curious how the program will evolve to address these issues (hopefully!)

    Fluff
Total fluff. Hard to listen to... all over the place... I got a headache trying to follow... my mind kept wandering all over the place because I was so bored. There was nothing of substance ... disorganised and scattered mind ... contradicts herself even... theres way better nutrition podcasts out there... this one just rambles

    Fantastic podcast
Dana’s recent episode about Quitting the Whole 30 really resonated with me. I did it once before in 2013 and I learned a lot. However, I have had trouble justifying doing it again, and the information Dana shared explained what I was thinking and feeling. I love that she is truthful, educated and soooo knowledgeable about so many things ...nutrition, mindset, food freedom, etc. Keep on doing what you are doing Dana and I will CONTINUE to follow what you are putting out there!

    Dana’s podcast is authentic
Having known Dana long before she started this amazing podcast, she’s stayed true to who she is and her podcast is a reflection of her genuine intellect, curiosity, sass, and all around energy for growth.

Love the real talk and the transparency. Love that you say it how it is and don’t hold back. Love that you are honest with yourself and honest with your listeners. Thank you for your risks and sharing your knowledge and experiences.

    Great information!
I loved what Dana had to say about elimination diets and simple eating in a way that makes you feel good! It became another fad diet and I’m so happy someone finally said it! I recently found this podcast and she for sure gained a follower in me! Thanks Dana!

    Disordered Eaters Unite 😉
I found this podcast this summer when I was doing a Whole30. I listened a few times and decided that I didn’t love a podcast focused on W30 when I wasn’t doing it anymore, so I unsubscribed. However I still follow Dana on Instagram. When I saw yesterday that she released this episode I was so excited to listen to it. I agree completely with her and recognize the fear and “bad” foods mentality because I am there! I felt like I needed to do a January Whole30 because I needed to “reset”. Fast forward to January 2nd and I cheated on the diet because I was out running errands longer than anticipated. Cue the guilt and the feeling like a failure. Overall, I felt great when I did W30 this summer. But it was mentally exhausting thinking about food that much (my whole family did it and my kids are young and my husband wasn’t interested in actually learning about it...so I was carrying the load of planning and prepping for ALL of us). It flashed me back to my days of anorexia/bulimia when I became hyper focused on food. I love the idea of a more sustainable way to eat and live! I’m subscribed again and looking forward to what you will put out.

    Intentionality
Loved her most recent episode! I had just decided not to do a January Whole30 after thinking about it a lot because it seemed like I was punishing myself for indulging over the holidays. It helped me the first couple of times and then I got a little too intense with it. Everything she says makes total sense and rings true for my experience👌🏼 ❤️👍🏼

    Keeping It Real!
I am an outsider to this world but listening to Dana’s perspectives is experiencing a fuller dialogue on ourselves and our wellness. Working with Dana was not just fun but almost calmingly cathartic as she posed questions and potential opportunities without judgement. As my childhood friend, she knows so well I love tasty foods with friends, so she met me where I was to empower my own individualized plan of action that allowed me to stay true to myself. It is clear she continues this same approach in examining each aspect of this richly complex subject!

    Empowering & Encouraging!
I am grateful for Dana’s openness and honesty. I follow her on Instagram and appreciate the opportunity to hear more from her in her podcasts. Her most recent podcast on quitting Whole30 was very freeing. Looking forward to 2019!

    Being her authentic self
Dana presents an authentic representation of herself. Everyone is freaking out over her decision to leave Whole30. She makes extremely good points of problems within the program. There are problems within the program.I am not going to recap the whole podcast but in a world full of yo-yo dieting, eating disorders, and terrible eating habits she helps people work on their relationship with food. If you are continuing to not eat foods because a person tells you not to that is not healthy. Dana talks A LOT about listening to your body which is important. She doesn't discourage people who are doing whole 30's but just points out the issues and reasons why she left. Stay true to who you are because you are an amazing human.

A voice that is desperately needed!
I have been following Dana’s podcast for about six months. She has this amazing ability to speak raw, honest truth about how we (particularly women) struggle with our bodies and relationship with food. Sometimes I well up with tears while listening to Dana because, for the first time, I hear someone else (Dana or her guests) share experiences like mine - eating too few calories, putting stress on my body through overexercising, resenting my body for not looking like the ideal in my head. I am exhausted from it! Dana, thank you for equipping me with new language to understand my experiences, for showing me that I am not alone, and giving me the tough love that I needed to correct the disordered patterns in my life perpetuated by the diet and fitness industries. I am a healthier and happier person since discovering this podcast. You do meaningful work, Dana, and you are desperately needed in this industry! My only critique is that I don’t think using language is really necessary to bring meaning to the content of the podcast. She is upfront that this not 100% “clean” all the time, and I feel like the profanity has lessened recently. The content is fantastic, so I will continue to listen without hesitation!

Thank you for your unwavering integrity and your bravery in pivoting away from Whole30. Everything you talk about in your podcast resonates for me.

Everyone on a health journey should listen
I love how real this podcast is! I am dealing with SO many of the issues Dana covers, from trying to overcome a bad relationship with food, trying to figure out food sensitivities, trying to be a more fit/confident me, and navigating Whole30. I was actually on the fence about doing another Whole30 round this January and listening to her newest episode, but ALSO a lot of the older ones, helped me make an informed and confident decision on what to do this month and beyond. Honestly if everyone trying to whole30, food food freedom, changing your relationship with food, etc. listened to even a couple episodes, they would be SO much more informed and intelligent on the subjects!!
  • Beachy917
    An absolute must!!
In a world that is completely inundated with so much terrible weight loss and fitness ‘knowledge’ Dana strips it all down and gives you the real deal. There is no quick fix, no shake, tea or otherwise that will get you to where you want to be with your relationship with food. She cuts through all the bs and gives you want you need to hear (not what you want to hear, this is the key difference). Sit back, relax and be ready to feel like you found the real secret to being healthy ... subscribe, subscribe, subscribe!!

    Episode 56
Dana, Thank you for this podcast. I feel like you were speaking directly to me. I drank the whole 30 kool-aid so hard and was so entrenched in the good/bad, yes/no food list. It did re-teach me to build a better plate and be more mindful about my ingredients, what and how much I am eating which I am grateful for. However, I never felt like I achieved “Food Freedom” and I hated myself for it. I have done 5 Whole 30’s and have felt like a failure for not reaching the food freedom. Honestly, I did not listen to your podcast until now, but I am officially subscribed. Thank you. I really needed this. I look forward to our future.

Love love love. Real. Honest. Helpful
Y’all Dana is the real deal. She is so spot on with her knowledge and experience regarding people and their relationships with food. Listen to what she’s saying about the whole30 and how it can be very damaging to someone who already has a tumultuous relationship with food. So true and so good.
