    Love this podcast!
Listen to the Ron Mills podcast for the second time. Love this podcast. The stories are so interesting and fun, and bring us all back to a better time!

    Hal is great
These podcasts ALWAYS educates on a variety of conservation related subjects. Hal is so laid back and obviously very well read and intelligent. So very glad I found the podcast.

    Gila episode
Great episode and overview of a wonderful place…I have done, and continue to do, lots of trail work in the burn scars there, and one conversation that was missing is that the FS is allowing the trails to completely disappear to the point of disintegrating access. There is a preservationist side of the agency that wants this, and the Gila burn scars will oblige unless dealt with more assertively. Access is disappearing there, and there aren’t near as many trails as the maps show.

Fantastic podcast for the outdoor enthusiasts!
Wide ranging topics on public lands, conservation, hunting & fishing, and more. A great way to be entertained and learn about our greatest resource - our public land. Thanks, Hal and BHA!

    The Hal Herring Show…
I keep coming back to this podcast hoping it gets better, but the host is constantly interrupting the folks he’s supposed to be interviewing. It’s painful to listen to.

    Missing best episodes
Missing some of the best episodes with Jim Pozawits and Guide Ron Mills. Need to put those back up.
  • Mbroes01
    Always a great conversation
Love the variety of locales, topics and guests on this show. Everything from organizing to big Buck story telling. Can we start keeping a book list? Lots of them discussed, could keep me reading fit years on great topics. Keep it up Hal!

    Love this work
And all that y’all are doing spreading the word of conservation and making real action happen on the ground. As an herbalist new to hunting I loved the interview with Susan Leopold. Would be great to have Phyllis Light on as a guest to talk about southern folk medicine. Keep doing great work Hal. Warmly, Logan
  • Duramaxnay6
    Good guests, but poor interviewing
CONSTANTLY interrupting guests and talking over the people they are supposed to be asking questions. Painful at times.
  • manlike.
A pragmatic look at this world of wounds.
This is the perfect podcast for any resident/student/disciple/junkyard dog of the natural world who, as Hal Herring puts it, suffers a “lack of indifference”.

One of the Best Outdoors Podcasts
Hal has a wonderfully curious mind which makes for great conversations and very interesting guests. If wild places, hunting, and fishing matter to you, give this podcast a listen.

    My favorite podcast
Hal Herring is an extraordinary host that matches the guests that are on this program. These podcasts dive deep into relevant issues regarding public lands, hunting, eating, and conservation. It is hard to find an outdoors podcast so filled with real content that all conservation-minded people can learn from. Thank you Hal and BHA for such an awesome program.

    Hal does it again!
Hal asks the right questions, digs deep and is involved in his guest! Such a wonderful host. I am a professional chef 30 plus years and found it informative and I share the passion of Hal’s guest. The interview with Chef Edwardo was S.P.E.T.A.C.U.L.A.R! Bravo Hal, freaking BRAVO!
  • MEH02492
I want to love this podcast!
I really appreciate the topics and conversations on this podcast, but Hal’s interview style really puts me off. I wish he would ask more questions rather than tell rambling leading stories and let the amazing folks he’s interviewing do the talking. Hal is an expert on so many things, but we know that. I want to hear from his guests!
  • Michael Robert Wood
    Love the show
I absolutely love this podcast. Hal speaks about nature, hunting, and conservation in a way that nobody else can. The man is a poet

    Hal & BHA
Hal really understands conservation & environmental issues from the perspective of a life-long outdoorsman. Don’t be fooled by his Alabama accent, he’s a smart dude, as are his knowledgeable guests. - Felton

    Don’t be fooled
Hal Herring is Redneck Genius. His depth of research and knowledge of the subjects covered by his perfectly chosen guests make him an excellent interviewer. I am grateful to be so well informed while being entertained. Definitely worth one’s time.
  • srmwa
    None better
This is my favorite podcast. Conservation with hunting and fishing as the main focus. Hal Herring is a true master interviewer. Don’t let his Alabama accent throw you. His knowledge of most topics is very deep and he is always very prepared for the show.
  • MoonovrMissouri
    Good Podcast, could be better
I love the topics and the guests are top notch. Hal could do better at letting the guests speak instead of speaking for them and trying to lead them. Not a deal breaker, but I just don’t understand why he’d do most of the talking when he’s the host and not the guest. Anyway, good work and if you like being outdoors, this is the show for you.
  • Bottomlandhunter
    Awesome podcast
Great podcast from a great organization, being a Tennessean I love the focus on southern outdoors
  • bmustMN
    Great Podcast!
I absolutely love this podcast. Hal has on fantastic guests. I find myself fascinated by topics I had never entertained a thought on. Hal’s genuine demeanor and knowledge make for an entertaining and informative show. Keep up the stellar work!
  • DirtNutson
    Love this Podcast
The best podcast out there for all things conservation and wild places. My only complaint is I spend a bunch of money on the many books Hal discusses with his guests. I appreciate the book discussion and references as much as anything.
  • Erich 112
    Great Podcast
I just wanted to say that I’ve been listening to the podcast for a while now. I think the latest episode with Traditional Bow Hunter and biologist Ron Rohrbaugh is one of the best. I might just listen to it again. Thanks BHA and thanks Hal! Keep up the great work.

    A+
Excellent podcast. Hal is extraordinarily well read, informed, and open minded. Hal and the podcast embody the Leopold conservation ethic.
  • Desert Junkie
    Top notch!
Informative, completely candid. If you’re interested in the great outdoors and our public lands it’s a must listen! Thanks Hal!

    Good Show, Untrustworthy Backing
I really enjoy Hal's commentary - however, I can't bring myself to support BHA overall any longer - Land Tawney and the BHA board are full of left-wing special intrest hacks. I care deeply about public lands, if you do as well spend your energy/time on TRCP. I wouldn't trust BHA.

    Enjoyable show
Really enjoy most of the content released by this podcast. I would donate to a Patreon account if you had one.

    BHA podcast
One of the best podcast out there in my opinion. My favorite was Don Thomas but all are excellent, educational and entertaining. Hal is a gem of an interviewer and writer. Thank you Mr. Herring for all you do.
  • moneskatik
Fact based and to the point
I listen to many podcasts, with a wide range of subject matter. I will say confidently that this is among the best. Hal is so well informed, and an eloquent interviewer. And, the guests just get better and better. Thanks Hal, for all that you do in protecting our public lands, and holding non-political discussions around the state of conservation of wild lands in North America. Thank you.
  • jdsuone
    SJW
Seems like more and more, every guest has some SJW background, or they’re a self proclaimed climate expert. Would think this show would be about hunting and fishing to some degree.
  • FUD63
Partisan politics is ruining this podcast
I used to really enjoy this podcast but with the election getting closer it seems it’s mostly just about bashing the right. I completely agree with pointing out things a party does that doesn’t support sportsmen and women. But this podcast lately seems to only wanna point out things the right does that they don’t agree with. A little less partisan politics would be nice.
  • Cross704
    My new go-to podcast
Love this show. Hal is a charming, gregarious, intelligent, well-read host and the guests are people I’m eager to hear from. Rugged outdoorsmanship grounded in the spirit of conservation. Always gets me itching to get outside. Fav eps so far include Tom McGuane, Clay Newcomb, and Mark Kenyon. Keep up the good work!

I thoroughly enjoy listening to this podcast. Some of my favorites have beens the interviews with Jim Posewitz, Rudi Roeslein, and Richard Manning. This is a great part of the character of BHA. Keep it up!

LOVE the podcast but two questions
I’m totally digging into all these after hearing about the podcast through Mountain and Prairie, but I have two questions/observations. 1. It would be super helpful to have podcast notes with links to books, orgs, people, articles that are talked about. I listen while I’m out working and don’t have a pencil on me all the time. 2. Where are the ladies? I know there aren’t as many of us out there listening and fishing and hunting, but it seems like the female perspective of the hunting/angling world isn’t as prevalent here as it could be. We’re are out here and we’re listening. We just want to hear from voices like ours. Love it and keep up the awesome interviews!
  • Stites76
    A Favorite
Hal does a great job not only interviewing his guests, but relating to them. This podcast is relevant, it’s enjoyable and it’s absolutely one of my favorites to listen to. The most recent, with Mark Kenyon, was insightful and quite honestly gave me a different opinion of Mark than I had going into this episode. Well done, to both Hal and Mark.

    Scratches the itch
This show provides great insight, guests, and seems to scratch the “itch” between hunting trips haha. Keep up the good work!

    Best Conservation/Outdoors Podcast!
I highly recommend anyone wondering about BHA to listen to episode 67 with Mark Kenyon. Such great information in every episode. Hal is such a knowledgeable host on so many topics, and he is so passionate about what he does. This podcast covers so many aspects of conservation that it has something for everyone. BHA is for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, not just hunters and anglers! Highly recommend.

EP 67. Two book nerds talking about books
An hour and twenty minutes of book nerds talking about dead people and books. It was an extremely engaging if an interview. I loved hearing Mr. Kenyan as a guest instead of a host. 5/5 stars.
  • steddowd
A great listen for all ..
Far ranging topics with passionate people presented in a cool refreshing way . I am not a big hunter or fisherman but I really love this podcast . It’s funny and super smart .. Hal is awesome .

    Quality Reporting and Interviews
I wish this came out more often. This is the stuff I care so much about and the folks at BHA do some amazing reporting and interviews on current events. The quality of content is above most hunting and angling shows.
