T. SouthardChallenges my thinkingHello guys: I cannot tell you how much the podcast means to me. Although I am not in the entertainment field, like you, I have such a huge passion for movies…. I managed a video store for 12 years (the good old days)… your willingness to dive deep into moving that I just saw as completely entertaining it completely enlightening. The most recent podcast ever listen to are Toostie and Mary Poppins…and while they still entertain, your willingness and desire to seek the deeper meaning has challenged me and made me appreciate these films on a much deeper level. In addition…I love all of the info regarding the pre-production and what goes into making a great film work. Thanks so much for sharing your passion and I am so excited to see what comes next! Your fellow movie lover, Terry

TextdghStick to the moviesThese guys know a lot about movies and it is fun listening to them about that. However, they are left wing West Coast wimpy dudes who judge movies and times based on today's standards. They are pretentious and should stick to the movies, period. And John actually said the United States was built on Idol worship. That sure tells you what they think about this country. stick to the movies, that's what you know and as far as being Americans, that's all you know.

Jacob ArozBeen here since day one! Still my FAV!After all these years, this is still the podcast I look forward to the most each week! The analysis, commentary, and conversation is always engaging, dropping you off further along than it picked you up. If you love film, even if you mildly enjoy film, do yourself a favor, and subscribe. You’ll be riding along with Steve and John in no time!

KXYLE360The Best Film PodcastFilm podcasts are my guilty pleasure and I’ve listened to countless different shows. The Cine-Files is hands down the best film podcast. While some shows lean on inside jokes and quirky categories to keep listeners engaged, John and Steve provide deep analysis with well-researched background on the production and the cast/crew involved in each film they cover. I always learn something new with each episode and even think about films from a different perspective. If you’re a true lover of film, you won’t find a better podcast than The Cine-Files.

FunwithbarbExcellent! One of my favorite movie podcasts. It’s informative and interesting and engaging. The host are excellent and I always learned so much about the movies that they discussed. Was so happy that they had Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid one of my all-time favorite movies. I plan to watch the Sting prior to listening to their episode.

matt9520Required listening for everyone 🎥These two gentlemen do not just "review" movies; they are architects who conduct rigorous film study in each episode, scholars in the truest sense with a whole lot of heart. They have each pursued creative work in Hollywood but this may be their magnum opus. They move me in ways similar to how the films themselves move me, for which I am eternally grateful🙏
-
HrantikGreat podThought the last thing I needed was another film podcast, but after coming across this, it’s now become my favourite one bar none. The chemistry of the two hosts, their breadth and knowledge of film, and their passion they go to in discussing some of the classics makes this a must listen for me, every week.
-
Jessica JokelaPositive & RespectfulThank you for helping me appreciate film again, and for introducing me to so many movies that I had not allowed myself to watch (due to some religious legalism). I really love your warm, positive approach and your brotherly, respectful friendship. Keep ‘em comin’ please!
-
AudioConsumerGreat film podcast!I love these guys. I appreciate the deep-dive they do on movies, analyzing scene by scene, and moment by moment. I actually prefer the episodes that break a movie into two, three or even four episodes. I love the detailed work that these gentleman do. Listen to this podcast, but only if you love movies!

jienthoOrdinaryJohn and Steve, I don’t do twitter nor instagram and you don’t provide an email, so I’ll try to connect here. Great part 1 on Ordinary People. So many insights into mental health issues. Appreciate the straight talk. Don’t take it as criticism, but there were a couple possible additional connections that were missed that I wanted to point out. Your talk about “normal” was so spot on (appeal to it is almost always a facade, total psychological construct, “no such thing” in reality). I was surprised you didn’t make the connection back to “ordinary” in the title. Second minor thing: You mentioned that Conrad’s time in hospital was never shown, only talked about, but that parallels completely what came up later in the film that Beth *never* visited Conrad in the hospital (“I had the flu!” Heh.). Anyway, great work and I look forward to part 2. I really have zero empathy for the Beth character, maybe due to recent politics: her line later about “of course I think only about myself and so does everyone else, I’m just more honest about it” is *complete* and utter narcissism. Jeff

FOUNDPUNKHooked from the start!I heard the podcast episode about Die Hard while riding in my friend’s car and took a liking to it. So much so I listened to all three episodes which ended my night at @ 1am! It was like I was watching the movie while learning. Now I’m hooked! Good job, fellas!
-
Zduke11Amazing showBetween the two hosts and their rotating guests these people truly appreciate cinema and they have a unique perspective to understand it given that one of them is a screenwriter and the other is a film instructor. I’m a relatively new listener, but I’ve already been through at least 10 or 12 episodes. Very happy I found this.

SAL257Love this podcastThese guys do such a great job reviewing movies! In depth and insightful and fun. Steve and John are fantastic, knowledgeable and entertaining. I’m addicted to this podcast. Thank you!
-
GusbeavisA welcome diversionIn a world (yes, going for that movie preview voice) where current events, politics l, and even history podcasts these days cause me unbearable anxiety, it is good to discover this podcast where steve and john compellingly discuss many of my favorite movies, or movies that may one day be up there when i get to watching them. Love these guys.
-
DiggydeucesFantastic ContentI’ve been a film and cinema lover all of my life and finding new ways to dig into that world is an amazing part of our technological age. Steve and John are amazing hosts with great insights and open minds. I work outdoors and independently, so having something to dig into while I’m working is always welcome. Great hosts and great content! Do The Proposition (2005)

one four eightJews being very jewyThese Jews need to do an expose on the Jewness of Hollywood and how they ignore the evil of the Jew genocide of the Palestinians.
-
Wakaida KidSpoiled future plot points! For their Shogun episode 1 & 2 review they spoil future plot points beyond episodes 1 & 2. Not everyone grew up with the 1980’s Shogun or read the book. It’s a bummer for people like me who enjoy listening to a breakdown of each episode right after watching it.
-
AuntikacksewsField of DreamsI have been listening to episode throughout this rich library. I love Field of Dreams, and this episode is absolutely fabulous.
-
narapeaLOVE these guys!!John and Steve are true film buffs and friends that are fun to spend an hour (or more) with. They seem to know everything about classic films, directors, actors and cinematography. I love their banter and deep dives into the classics and more modern films. I’ve listened to some episodes twice to get all of it. (Godfather). I’ve rewatched films at times after listening to their analysis and watched some that I might have missed otherwise. Thanks guys for enriching my cine-life!

Suffering09Cinematic Knowledge Goldmine!Found this podcast last year and instantly became hooked. Such a wealth of cinematic knowledge around the art and reasoning behind why directors or actors do the things they do that make the movies we love so amazing. If you want a college course into film making, this is your best option!

Krdragon6950A Cinematic Journey Worth Taking!I stumbled upon The Cine-Files podcast during a late-night movie marathon, and it has become an absolute favorite. Hosts John Rocha and Steve Morris bring their passion for cinema to every episode, creating a delightful blend of insightful analysis, witty banter, and genuine camaraderie. Thoughtful Analysis: Steve and John dive deep into the heart of each film they discuss. Whether it’s dissecting character arcs, exploring thematic nuances, or unraveling hidden Easter eggs, their attention to detail is commendable. They don’t shy away from the complexities, and their thoughtful conversations make me appreciate movies on a whole new level. Authentic Friendship: Listening to them feels like eavesdropping on two old friends catching up over coffee. Their laughter is infectious, and their chemistry is palpable. It’s evident that they genuinely enjoy each other’s company, and that warmth extends to their listeners. As a result, I feel like part of their cinephile circle. In summary, The Cine-Files is more than a podcast; it’s a cinematic journey. So grab your popcorn, settle in, and let Steve and John guide you through the magic of the silver screen. 🎥🍿 Don’t forget to support them on Patreon and explore their featured films on their website. And hey, maybe someday they’ll discuss my all-time favorite movie! Keep up the fantastic work, gentlemen! 🙌🎉

Nicholsr14The Best! The best listen when you want a breakdown of your favorite movies!
-
Mr. MichaelGoodfellas! You nailed it…Really one of your best episodes and thrilled that you did it 3 parts. Regarding The Great Train Robbery/Tommy shot tat the end , I believe Scorsese uses it exactly like it is used in the 1903 film - as an exclamation point on the entire film. And Tommy gets a little bit of an encore. It comes out of nowhere after a bit of a ‘downer” ending and it wakes you up.
-
saiyan24675Good time for listeningMake going through work much easier and make me want to rewatch the films I’ve seen before
-
Wazed and confusedThis show is fun.More than anything else these guys know how to have a good time talking about movies. If you need a break from all the seriousness and the news pick an episode from one of your favorite movies and nerd out for a bit. Very positive vibes from people who really love movies.
-
lkahhdhdudiReviewThey are my cup of coffee in the morning. I love listening to them in my lonely drive to and from work
-
ShelbyG127Excellent Movie analysisI love the back and forth between John & Steve, I enjoy the different perspectives, the detail and research they put into each film is great, this is my new favorite movie podcast, can’t wait to check out all the back library.
-
WackyWally8Lots of historical details are highlighted: a HUGE recommend!John and Steve have incredible taste and present mostly Positive breakdowns of All of the films they love. This is no simple trashing of the obvious low points of Hollywood, but rather an in depth analysis of some of the Greatist films ever. Much to enjoy!
-
chelseaboesMy FavoriteEssential show for storytellers of all kinds. It never fails to delight & teach me something about life and craft. I love how John & Steve celebrate movies. It’s just honest joy.
-
UpanddryGreat listening!I have recommended this show to everyone! I am addicted! I am suggesting the Kirk Douglas movie, Ace in the Hole. Timeless story! Keep up the good work! Karen in Cleveland!!!!

Chicago JediBest Movie PodcastI love how the guys break down everything and have so much insider knowledge. Such a smart and funny show.
-
depot1956ComprehensiveThe most in depth movie review podcast ever. When you listen to the podcast, you feel like you’re watching the film. They break down the entire movie, scene by scene. Very knowledgeable and most insightful. Highly recommend this podcast. The Very Best.
-
HOAX SURVEY SITEVirtue signaling constantlyIt’s a good show if you can get through the disgusting constant virtue signaling. And they claim to be artists and they talk about things you can’t do no a days and used to be able to get away with. I thought art didn’t have boundaries? John is the worst with this.
-
Cine files FanExcellent Long Form Movie PodcastSteve and John both have experience in the industry (one as director and the other as actor) which allows them to add the perfect amount of relevant color to my favorite movies. More importantly there’s no facade or fakeness and the takes are genuine and almost always on point (I couldn’t have my own opinions and say “always” but it’s close). Great pod. Enjoy.
-
patreonappsucksJohn is horribleThe way he analyzes film is awful, his jokes never land, doesn’t offer anything. Get rid of him
-
Dr BRCMarvel movies do not need more coverageShow has lost its way. Haven’t done a Hitchcock movie in 5 years yet talk about bad marvel movies for capitalist intentions alone . Terrible betrayal of what the podcast was originally intended to support , true cinema.
-
msw catJust so smart and funnyI’m their number one fan and any anyone who doesn’t love them is just a cockadoodie stinker! I’m right in Steve’s demographic and his story about hiding from ads for The Exorcist reminded me of the time I ran out of the house into the back yard during the burning pit scene in The Last Man on Earth. I think I was about six. So many of their reviews inspire me to watch and re watch movies like Night of the Hunter and The Wrath of Khan. Everything but that abysmal Mary Poppins. Still, it was a fun listen. Great job guys!
-
SpeedybruHands down the best film podcastI’m cracking up over the people in the reviews who complain about the (minimal) political commentary or conversations about “woke” ideology, COMPLETELY missing the themes of the movies that are direct reflections and projections of those very things. If your ignorance doesn’t get offended by it cleverly written in a movie but does on a podcast, that’s your own fault. Just because you disagree with a hosts political views doesn’t make them any less talented in such deep discussion of movies. Cinefiles is a stand-out show. Excellent insight and thought-provoking dialogue, with a strong attention to facts and details. Love it.
-
dkaiser4Continuing to declineUsed to be the best cinema podcast out there but it continues to decline due to the hosts ability to get offended on every episode. They’re in the movie business…how is that even possible? They're incredibly self righteous and love to virtue signal.
-
captnzenThese Guys Got Cinematic Game!I’ve loved 🥰 film since I was a kid. These dudes do movies justice. Like listening to Pauline Kael’s kids. ( if they’d inherited her cinema passion) My 5th or 6th listening to this pod. Superb.
-
Yenskie101Could be betterI always enjoy a good breakdown of great films but this show seems like these guys are so concerned about defending their morals that its more about them than the films. Just talk about the film. Of course we know Jordan Belfort was a duche and Calvin Candie was a bad guy. Of course we know you guys don’t condone the actions of these “characters”.
-
ZKaferThis podcast is getting worseI used to love this podcast, but now there is so much self-righteous commentary about how bad people are in the movies and political analysis from the left, instead of just enjoying the movies. The one that turned me off was the Wolf of Wall Street. I couldn’t even listen to the third part, because there was so much repetition of the talk of cults and rich people and how bad of a guy, Jordan Balfour is. obviously, he was a criminal, we get it. It ruins the analysis by constantly talking about it. It’s a movie! Not everything has to be seen through 2023 eyes.
-
Ayelver1Great Episode on “Silverado”Excellent episode that made me love on if my favorite movies even more.
-
Awesome9101The Cinefiles is greatI’ve been listening to John and Steve for close to five years now and their content has only improved and improved on the Cine-files. If your looking for funny, interesting, and open conversations about film and everything involved in making said films, you have to do yourself the service of listening to this show. As the show has expanded its audience, they have also expanded their ability for detail. New episodes now can range between 3 to 4 parts depending on the film as opposed to much shorter episodes at the beginning, allowing for the most creative and engaging conversations between John and Steve to flourish rather than to be rushed. All in all I think if your any kind of lover of film and film history, this show is simply where it’s at.

CantuckyGreat podcast!I have been listening to this podcast since 2017, and always enjoy the discussion and insight it to some of my favorite movies as well as some films I had not seen but have been inspired to watch. What’s really refreshing about this podcast is that they have avoided the temptation to talk about nothing but superhero movies and blockbusters exclusively. There are millions of people already doing that on YouTube. Edit: it took a minute, but they finally pivoted into the world of superheroes and begging for money on YouTube. They did four (4!) episodes on Black Panther?? They haven’t even done E.T. , but they found time to drone on and on about race on most of their recent episodes. Now they will be doing Marvel movies All. The. Time. There are endless spaces online and on YouTube where there is no lack of discussions about superheroes. It’s probably a side effect of the online media landscape. The only things that get clicks are capes and lightsabers. Everybody’s gotta eat, so they are doing what they have too, I guess. Also, they took the Manson Family’s side in their discussion of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. We don’t always have agree on movies, but the way they pooped all over Tarantino on TARANTINO MONTH was enough for me to unsubscribe.
-
Greg VetterThe Cine-Files is awesome! The conversations and insights about film and the movies that they review make Steve & John's podcast both wonderfully enjoyable and educational. enjoying movies is made much better because of them.

Justin G FlintThe Cine-Files Are Wonderful!I found the Cine-Files looking for a resource for an Alfred Hitchcock term paper I was writing. After listening to their deep dive episodes on Rear Window and Vertigo, I went back and listened to their entire back catalog of podcasts. Steve and John provide a wealth of knowledge, perspective, and emotional intelligence when discussing the great films of history and the impact they have on us today. Through their professionally presented discussions, the Cine-Files have enriched movies I’ve already loved, enlightened me to movies I now cherish, and inspired me to watch movies I have yet to encounter. Exciting and passionate guests come in on perfectly paired movie discussions to add wonderful points of view to already deep conversations. If you love movies for beautiful acting, lingering symbolism, filmic craftsmanship, and the truth inherent in good stories, you owe it to yourself to check this podcast out! Thank you Steve and John!
-
Aidenblue06Favorite Podcast!I’m a 17-year-old senior in high school. I’m an absolutely enormous movie nerd and I’m currently applying to film school. When I was stuck at home during COVID, I began listening to this podcast. Not only is it an absolutely amazing podcast if you want tons of cool film knowledge, but it lets me rediscover some of my favorite movies and has helped me through some of the hardest parts of my life. I live in Michigan, and my school was receiving threats after the Oxford High School shooting. The day after, barely anyone was at school because parents were keeping their kids out. But I was, and that whole day, I just listened to the Cine-Files. John and Steve - keep it up! This podcast means so much to me and reminds me why I love movies! Thank you guys so much for this incredible show, and if you are an avid film lover, you HAVE to listen to the Cine-Files.

V7i7cInformative, addictive and hilarious! This has become my favorite podcast. I find it informative, addictive… and hilarious. I have read many books on cinema and have taken a class or three in my four score of years on Spaceship Earth, but I get more out of these discussions between two good friends (and their occasional guests) than all of these books and classes combined. They do deep dives into the movies. Really deep dives. Their coverage is almost always illuminating regardless of whether I agree with them or not. That are illuminating in regard to the film they’re covering AND illuminating in regard to the sensitivities and belief systems of these two very smart and funny gentleman. At times it feels like I am listening in on one of the individual and group therapy sessions I participated in throughout the late 60s, 70s, 80s, etc.. From my perspective, that’s a good thing. Above all these gentlemen are endlessly entertaining. Do yourself a favor and just listen to one or two of these gems. You too will be hooked. vic P.S. The only suggestion I have for improvement comes from my background as an amateur historian. I noticed that in films portraying historical characters and events you treat the films as actually being accurate and the real history of things. They are most definitely not real history – they are inevitably a condensed portrayal of a point of view on an historical personage or event. They inevitably are biased, incomplete, and even occasionally completely inaccurate. They are not to be relied upon as The Truth.
-
NightbearsFantastic PodcastFor me this is the quintessential podcast for learning about movies. I appreciate the eagerness of the hosts to learn as much about the movies and not just what makes them work, but the human elements and insights we can learn from how a story comes together, both on film and behind the scenes. I appreciate both the positivity and shrewdness the hosts bring while making it a completely satisfying experience for newcomers to film exploration, die hard fans of a specific movie, and, you guessed it, Cinephiles.
