Front Burner is a daily news podcast that takes you deep into the stories shaping Canada and the world. Each morning, from Monday to Friday, host Jayme Poisson talks with the smartest people covering the biggest stories to help you understand what’s going on. We’re Canada’s number one news podcast and a trusted source of Canadian news.

We cover Canadian news and Canadian politics, Justin Trudeau, Pierre Poilievre, the Donald Trump administration, the upcoming 2025 Canadian election, provincial politics from Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and politicians Danielle Smith, David Eby and Doug Ford. We cover Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary as well as other municipalities across Canada.

In this Canadian election year, Front Burner will be focusing more on Canadian politics. After Trudeau’s departure as Prime Minister and leader of the Liberals, we are covering the Liberal leadership race and frontrunners Mark Carney and Chrystia Freeland. We will take a close look at the Conservatives and Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre as well as other leaders like Jagmeet Singh from the NDP and Quebec’s Yves-François Blanchet from the Bloc Québécois during the 2025 Canadian federal election. The podcast goes beyond Ottawa and digs deeper into major election issues like jobs, the economy, immigration, cost of living, housing and rental costs, taxes and tariffs, democracy and technology.

The Front Burner daily podcast covers Canadian news from every province and territory: Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon. We cover news from major cities like Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton.

When U.S. President Donald Trump declares he wants to make Canada the 51st state, and decides to implement tariffs, Front Burner has an analysis into what is happening. We cover Elon Musk’s DOGE. We cover the latest in technology from the rise of bitcoin and crypto, the future of TikTok, Meta, artificial intelligence, influencers, and more.

Look to our archives to see fact-checked stories about infrastructure, fascism, border security, immigration, Pierre Poilievre, Justin Trudeau, the Republican Party, American politics, Canadian politics, India, China, Trump’s tariffs, Mark Carney, Elon Musk, Toronto, technology, artificial intelligence, international students, healthcare, and inflation. We cover global news like the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, the ceasefire, the Ukraine-Russia war, and the U.S. economy, DOGE, and U.S. politics.

Front Burner is a part of your morning news routine. Whether you’re in Toronto or Vancouver or Washington, this is the news that matters to Canadians. We take a look at the economy and break it down from the budget to interest rate hikes to inflation to recessions to jobs to the cost of living. We look at the policy around housing, Canadian housing supply, and what this means for first-time home buyers, renters, and those with a mortgage. We look at technology, from AI to the manosphere to social media like Meta, Twitter, Facebook, and more. We look at influential newsmakers like Elon Musk and influential technology industries like crypto and AI.

    Resilience
Listening to today’s episode, I feel the guest has forgotten the lessons in resilience and resistance Ukraine has gifted the world.

Why not just listen to CBC?
This podcast just pushes a woke liberal agenda. Useless podcast.

    Excellent News & Analysis
I’ve been a fan of this show for many years. I’m in TX USA, and find the Canadian view refreshing and interesting. I enjoy the Canadian focus as well as their analysis of their southern neighbor. I think it’s a necessary follow.

Go to show for an American
Although I’m more interested in American events, Jayme Poisson provides a sobering analysis and even tempered discussions of events that I really enjoy even if the focus is on Canadian events. Armine Yalzinyan is one of my favorite guests- she explains economic policy beautifully

    Carbon Tax episode
Let me first say I love Front Burner and listen regularly. However, I found myself so triggered by Arno Kopeokey’s commentary during this podcast. Trotting out the government talking points about 80% of Canadians getting back more than they pay in tax and the other part about the tax not having any measurable affect on market prices. The evidence says something entirely different. I am so disappointed your podcast did not explore any further than the previously covered aspects while you sailed past some obvious issues that would have made this a standout discussion. Surely you would want to be ground breaking and more thorough than this? Instead it just reinforced the Federal government position and we were none the wiser after Arno was done. No mention of the fact all Canadians are required to pay the tax but only families, as a whole, get the refund. It is smoke and mirrors. As one tiny example; shipping companies are adding a sizable fuel surcharge to their deliveries and it is certainly not 1.1%. Common sense dictates this would have a significant affect on retail costs. You did not discuss Canada’s meager contribution to global greenhouse gases and whether it was fair to ramp up carbon tax on Canadians while other countries are just rubbishing the progress we make. You also failed to discuss the fact some parts of Canada have not developed and do not offer alternatives to carbon based fuels (NL is one of them). We are sitting ducks here in NL. Perhaps most annoying to me is the fact our government feels no obligation to combine the escalating tax with National programs and/or initiatives to reduce the enormous number of diesel trucks on our roads or make it really affordable to convert to electric heating. The government is only interested in taxing Canadians to submission relying on their belief the tax will make them rich and force greenhouse gas reductions. They need to be involved if they really mean it.

Great topic today 4/29, horrible guest!!
The guest this morning Arielle Angel, was a horrible choice for a guest. She had a very apparent agenda and her reporting was very one side, not to mention she even said she had only been to 2 days of protests at Columbia so not sure how that makes her a expert. This should have been an hour long show with multiple guests from across the country. I would have no problem with Arielle Angel being on the show if their were another journalist with a differing opinion. Jayme did a good job of trying to play devils advocate but was unsuccessful in the end. I myself have no problem with the protests but wish the show was not so one sided and someone pushing their personal agenda.

    Some good info, but ….
This show is really woke. Like really really really woke. Some of the reporting isn’t bad but sadly you can’t trust the show because they are pushing a political agenda and if you don’t know a topic well then you can’t tell where the reported info ends and the dogma begins. It is a shame but there it is. I’ve stopped listening to much of NPR and all of CBC radio because of this. They don’t trust their audience to be smart enough to make up their own minds and they tell you what to think. Its like they don’t know the difference between reporting and editorial content and how important it is to clearly delineate between the two. I used to love CBC radio but I’m now out.

    Katie Nichol interview
I was looking forward to this interview and your podcast. It felt like you were pretty disrespectful to Katie. I don’t know much but she is a respected journalist and has covered the royals since Harry was a young adult. There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding “tabloid” journalism vs the “Royal ROTA”. I understand it to be that the tabloid outlets are just making stuff up, throwing it out there just to see what sticks. Sometimes they might get it close to right but it’s rare. The Royal ROTA is a group that has been vetted by the public and the monarchy and they can be trusted “sources” of the news. They have backgrounds in professional journalism and proven track records. It doesn’t seem like that was made clear in the podcast and although I know very few details about any of it, that is my understanding. It’s like putting up the Wallstreet Journal against a high school newspaper covering the same event.

    Great show
Great variety of topics and very thoughtful deep dives into stories. I’m charmed by Jayme’s warmth and humor. I’m a Canadian living in the States and I’m proud of the content that the CBC delivers 🥹

It’s into left field… Foul ball.
At least try to see any topic from a perspective that isn’t alt-left.

    I love it!
I think it is wonderful to be able to listen to the Canadian perspective here in the US.

    Best podcast for Canadians!
Highly recommend this podcast. In some ways it’s better than listening to the news. I get great perspective and analysis of so many different issues and news events! I like the hosts warm and candid style.

    Ram ranch baby
Like the hostess, reminds me of Emily Jane fox of vanity fair. Even, fair, removed, thoughtful and considered journalism. Not much editorializing if any at all, very even. Come on down to the ram ranch 18 cowboys

Far left, as far as the eye can see
The pods that are current event or personality based are generally interesting and well done. The pods on political topics or ideas are always spoiled by a far left bias in opening premise and guest selection with no alternative opinions or thought offered, ever. If you are an NDP or AOC adherent and want to nod along thoughtfully as your bias is confirmed, this is your pod. If you want to hear ideas and interviews from diverse political thought lines, keep looking, this ain’t it.

Oh Socialism, How I Miss Thee
Living in the US can be hard these days, particularly if you believe in equal human rights and/or science. Jayme Poisson does an excellent job as host. I also recommend CBC’s Morning Brief email newsletter for staying up to date with Canadian news.

    Great deep dive of news!
I am a Canadian living the US right now and I listen to this podcast daily to stay up to date on what’s happening in Canada and the rest of the world. I’m so grateful to have a trusted news source on these topics. Thank you for your great reporting! And I do love the music!!
  • Chriz Again
    Unbalanced reporting
Wow perhaps the CBC should report on Canadian issues. The reporting on US political issues is SO one sided. Obviously reported from a socialist point of view.
  • Trakix
Embarrassing reporting in June 27 episode
The episode titled “Some UFOs can’t be explained: U.S. Intelligence report” is an embarrassment and absolute failure in reporting. The guest is a self proclaimed Ufologist and not a scientist who can actually analyze the reports with reality in mind.
  • PlavinsH
    Music?
The marimba music is not enjoyable. The reporting is well done. It deserves more attractive music. I feel like turning it off when I hear the loathsome ping ping ping.

    Friday interview with Dr Bococh
Harder questions needed here. Dr. Bococh underplaying Canada’s lack of preparedness. There is a serious lack of tests. I will write in with what I’m seeing on the ground. This guys has really no idea. And closing borders does help.

    Breath of fresh air
CBC covers diverse topics such as the school bus crash court hearings to the recent Canada-China dispute. The airwaves aren’t dominated by American politics which is relieving.

    Totally need this
As an American who feels either desperation or suspicion after listening to our daily news offerings, I'm very excited to add a new perspective from Front Burner to my listening diet. This one is a keeper.

More than I could have hoped for
I’m a big fan of The Daily and had high hopes for this Canadian perspective show. I have not been disappointed! Surprising stories, compelling interviews, and high quality production. Bravo!
