    Long time listener but
Have loved the pod over the years but it’s become a tough listen. The constant unfunny political remarks and hating on every show that people like. Elitist negativity. Probably time to replace Andy, the Prestige TV pod is way more fun.

Glad Andy survived his tumultuous flight home!

    The Andy of It All
    Andy needs a break—maybe permanently.

    Long time listener…
5 stars for the mems. I’ve been listening for years. Recently I have grown so frustrated with the show, as much as I love CR and Andy. As someone who truly loves TV and believes that great shows come out all the time, not just 10 years ago or a couple times per year, the negatively can be really difficult to listen to. I feel like they used to skip over projects that they didn’t really vibe with or just give periodic updates. But speaking so negatively about shows that many people love week after week after week, I don’t understand it.

    Done
I’m officially done with this show. Andy made an effort for a couple of weeks to act like he actually enjoys anything but he’s back to fully blown full of himself again. I’ve unsubscribed & will check back sometime down the road to see if Andy has been replaced.

    Why?
Why do these guys watch so much tv they don’t like? It makes no sense. It’s just an odd life choice. To each their own I guess?

    Way too much elitist negativity
Way too much elitist negativity . Andy should be an occasional guest or replaced entirely. You start to feel like Andy’s therapist because he somehow is able to make a majority of an episode about himself, his whiny champagne-problem complaints, and personal life. He also will find any way to complain about the most superficial, petty things about the best of the best. He ruins everything good and there has to be a dark rain cloud following this poor man . I’m not interested in hearing Andy’s voice at all, so sometimes I try to seek out the parts where I can hear Chris’s great opinions and analysis about the shows. 5 stars to Chris. 0 stars to Andy. Averages out to 2.5 stars. Hard to listen. I won’t be listening again until Andy is no longer on this show.

    Adolescence
I hope Andy can do a solo pod about Adolescence. I am equally invested and would love a deep dive. The show blew me away.

Chris Ryan is brilliant but Andy Greenwald is annoyingly condescending
The Watch would be much better if Joanna Robinson replaced Andy. CR and Joanna are the most insightful people on Ringer podcasts about TV.
  • ItIsShotzi
    Used to love it
Andy has become such a hater I’m legitimately no longer interested in listening to this show. Andy clearly thinks he is smarter and better than writers/creators who are objectively more successful than he is and it is tough to keep listening as he *clearly* holds every tv show on tv to a considerably higher standard after the disappointment of the one he made (Briar Patch). I truly hope Andy can seek therapy and reclaim his love for the art medium. It’s a bummer hearing him becoming increasingly miserable as time passes. Unless I hear the show has gotten better I’m out, just like I’m out on Midnight Boys with Charles being similarly negative. Hating everything isn’t the same as having taste.

Used to listen to every episode
The way you’ll go on about Severance not being written well enough but then be rapturous about anything written by Taylor Sheridan is absurd.

Hipsters Pretending to be Intellectuals, Bitter about superior creatives pander to counter culture
Neither one of these clowns pay enough attention to the shows they cover to give an informed opinion. The one guy is bitter his show on TNT was the most mid show of all time and acts like he’s some genius, but will slobber all over a an illogical show like Paradise. CR is cool and reasonable with decent takes for the most part. The other guy is a fart sniffing, bitter hack with a major inferior complex and makes the show insufferable
  • mbishdirndd
    Fun to listen to
I love the funny banter, but you guys are way too harsh on Severance 😂. It’s an absurdist/surrealist avant-garde show and should not be measured by preconceived expectations of pace and narrative structure.

    Andy is ruining the show
Andy your heart is not in this anymore. Find something that makes you happy.

    Insufferable
Can’t listen to Andy any longer. The constant political takes from him are insufferable. Honestly, he’s made me wonder if I should continue watching TV. Was a long time listener.
  • calanhunt
    Only one good host
Chris Ryan is the man, but good god Andy Greenwald is insufferable to listen to and the reason I stopped listening.

    Best podcast I listen to
Very intelligent show, esp compared with other similar pods. Andy and Chris have so much chemistry and positive energy that the show is compelling to me, even when the topic is not. Wanted to leave a comment on the topic of Rogue Heros, and can’t find comment field on the episodes: Read and promote Ben McIntyre! He wrote the book, and has written many others on the same topic and time (ie, UK WWII/Cold War era spys and spec ops). David Stirling was captured and imprisoned and missed the entire European war. He loves a long time but had some permanent injuries from his imprisonment. He was the spiritual father of SAS and the entire commando world, which has a direct line to the current navy seals. He bequeathed that to Paddy Mayne, who led the team through the remainder of the war.

    Unsubscribed
Much like other reviewers, I simply could not listen to Andy any longer. CR is fantastic and would do well on his own (or with a new cohost). I hope The Ringer takes these reviews seriously; a course correction is necessary.

    Had to unfollow
I used to really enjoy this show. But lately, it’s become insufferable. The one guy just sounds like an annoying bro whose opinions I don’t enjoy hearing. It’s not smart anymore or insightful. I’ll just listen to other recap podcasts instead I guess
  • BusinessSecretsofthePharoahs
    5 stars
Not for me but taste is so subjective… just because I’m not a fan doesn’t mean you’ll hate it too. I don’t listen to other top rated podcasts but that doesn’t mean you won’t like it so therefore I’m giving this podcast 5 stars. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen and find out for yourself!
  • EllisQu
    andy needs to check himself
Andy is so full of himself at this point he needs to be brought down a peg. It’s nearly impossible to listen to him be so pretentious and convoluted about everything. CR you’re doing great but I feel like the pretentiousness is seeping into you a bit :(
  • NorrinRadd69
    Lol
It’s comical that Andy brags about his time working on Legion (a marvel show that was really not good at all) but trashes pretty much anything marvel does now. I genuinely wasted my time watching Legion
  • Watchman 123
Maybe mix in some humility, Andy?
I love this show. Been my go to for TV for years - Chris is as great as ever. But Andy is starting to negatively impact the show. He is becoming a constant source of sarcasm and degrading comments. May need a break for a while.
  • cnov123
    Wonderful
    Friendship, intelligence, experience, fun, insights.
  • @WelchysGripe
Chris Ryan is the king of interrupting.
    Good but messy.
  • Dominic Hendryx
    Shallow.
A shallow show, about shallow topics, made by shallow people.
  • Mih_Hall
    It’s good, but…
I love Andy and Chris, but Andy is starting to give off dismissive, “I’m above it all”, whiny vibes. In his own way, he is becoming just like my least favorite podcaster at the Ringer - Amanda Dobbins. He almost whines like a child about anything he doesn’t like, and sometimes not because of the actual show itself, but because of the “principle” or some other made up reason. And his constant rants and disruptions any time Chris tries to make a point, are getting exhausting. Like Chris rarely gets to articulate a thought without being interrupted by Andy. And finally, the constant avoidance of questions by Andy is getting out of hand. “so what did you think of episode 3?” - Chris “Wait a minute, wait a minute, I’m still stuck on the fact that last night when I texted you, you were eating chicken. Is chicken a thing now?” - Andy. Like I love this duo, but Andy step it up. You can do better than this, I’ve listened to episodes when you’ve been great.

    Andy, pass the ball
CR is one of my favorite at the Ringer. However Andy is like the Michael Jordan of long winded explanations and comments. They should make a rule that he gets 3 sentences and then has to pause. Otherwise squirt him with a water bottle or something. I think the chemistry between them is good but Andy has got to pass the ball more often

    i hate these guys…
so sick of arrogant, entitled BORING white men…i have to admit, i’ve never gotten through a full podcast cuz they’re so annoying and i literally hate their voices… i listened to part of another episode just to make sure i still hated ‘em…I DO!

    Uninterested
I have listened here and there to this show, enjoyed it somewhat. However, their reviews of shows is very off. For instance-they speak of Shogun as if it’s some masterpiece and although I generally enjoyed it, it wasn’t as high quality as they seem to think. I dragged quite a bit actually. And then I listened to their top 10 of 2024 lists and hadn’t watched most of the shows. So that’s not their fault and of course the shows could be great and I just haven’t seen them. But then they spend time discussing True Detective:Night Country being in the conversation for top shows of 2024. Huh?! Did they watch something the rest of us didn’t? That show was garbage! I’m unsubscribing because these people are out of touch. Do they promote shows done by their friends or something? So strange .

This podcast is a must-listen. The hosts blend are hilarious and have incredible autobiographical memories. Their chemistry is electric, and their passion for film & tv is infectious. I watch what they watch just for this pod.

    Yea…
Just like other reviews I’ve read, the show is kind of declining and Andy (you might be a great guy) but you drag this show down man. Its a circle of hating and just non-sense.

    Fassbender
Catching up on recent episodes and was struck by your comments about Michael Fassbender. I agree he's a great actor, but it should be pointed out that the timing of him becoming more quiet professionally, or "selective" as it was put in the podcast, coincided with resurfacing reports of legitimate domestic abuse allegations brought against him by an ex. I love the pod, but felt like I had to say something on this.

    Hipsters
It’s absolutely ridiculous that these guys didn’t even bother with The Penguin. What show in the interim was worth talking about?
  • bigcatpfttvshowx2
    Talk penguin
Just because andy doesn’t like most things doesn’t mean you don’t have to talk about Penguin. Do the penguin you idiots

I just listened to your latest podcast regarding “Disclaimer”. I have never heard such amateurish ‘bro’ dribble about a series before even seeing the final episode which ties it all together. I listen to many podcasts but without a doubt yours is the most juvenile one I’ve ever heard. Are you both trying to out laugh each other? You are pathetic. Grow up and learn what real art is before you tear it to pieces in your immature, disgusting way.
  • It's me Shango, lol
    Redmayne
I've been a fan since my first ep years ago. Per usual, steller show gents. Ye lot really been yeomans work,👍😻🥰. Greenwald/Ryan ye sleepin' on ol' Redmayne, most stuff i've seen him in, he's been good.

    I agree. Not fun anymore.
Used to love the show but in the last year it seems it has devolved into being just a couple haters who’s taste is simply much too refined for us peasants. Obviously it’s more of an Andy trait but he’s definitely dragged Chris into that downer realm as well.

Great for Succession and Industry Lovers
All the nuanced insights of Roeper, with the subtlety of Rex Reed. (But I still try to listen because I’m grateful they convinced me to give Andor a chance.)
  • Jazzdelmar
    Industry?
You’d think industry is the only show on tv.
  • ALB Man
    Like it but…
Like the pod, but there is, from time to time, an unwillingness to engage with the material that they don’t like in any depth. I also find there to be a bias in favor of the MCU and greater critical scrutiny towards other non-MCU IP. I assume it has something to do with childhood / teen nostalgia. Frankly, I find no IP universe inherently superior, and the MCU has more than its share of junk.

50 minute podcast that doesn’t start until 15:00
Tried to listen a couple of times, but I never had to fast forward so much in a podcast just to get to the topic.

    Industry Season 3 Finale
Did not have *crying* during the Industry Season 3 finale on my bingo card. Love all the new storylines and genres this show is exploring, even if heartbreaking and soul-crushing to watch at times. Can’t wait for Season 4!
  • HamChalupa
    Like David Letterman
Letterman used to beat a bad joke into the ground until it was hilarious, like here’s a guy in a bear suit going into a coffee shop, here’s another, here’s another, here’s another. It feels lame at some point, but then when the shop is full of guys in bear suits, you’re just delighted. Andy is doing that with Thomas Friedman references. You might be tired of it now, but just wait till it’s 90 minutes of non-stop taxi rides in Mumbai. I’m sure it will be just as much fun as Dave cackling at a coffee shop full of guys in bear suits. Legends.
