    Love movies, hate Sean
Sean you are literally the worst.

    Bobby rules
Just a bobby appreciation post. Love him, and his love of baseball, and the the Mets. He’s also a great follow on Letterboxd.

    Amanda Dobbins Rules!
I just saw someone insult my dear podcast friend Amanda in these reviews and had to say she is awesome and I miss her when she is on leave. We need her to balance and banter with Sean and CR. The recent Tracey Letts 1982 draft was great! It is also amazing with Zach joins and Amanda can banter with her husband and Sean.

Five people all talking at once
We love whatever you do even when it’s five people talking over each other and utterly unlistenable you’re like Linda Evangelista you can do no wrong!
  • vanilla_honeyx
    Get rid of Bob
Bobby Wagner is awful. He comes across as being very arrogant. He’s really unlikeable. The podcast would be much better without him.

    Amanda is insufferable
……… besides Amanda being insufferable, Sean is a national treasure. Thus the podcast is worth it.

    DOBB MOB FOREVER
I've seen several reviews bashing Amanda and I just wanted to post on here to say Amanda, you rule, don't listen to these losers. You perfectly balance out Sean and I always love hearing your takes. You keep being you The people who hate on you are clearly outing themselves as misogynistic incels with no lives. Very sad stuff

    Amanda’s voice is horrible
I really would listen a lot more if it wasn’t for Amanda. Her voice and her takes are insufferable. Please replace her immediately.

    Please stay on track
I don’t think the hosts realize that their ceaseless banter and call backs to inside jokes make this podcast so hard to share. I’ve tried sending episodes about pertinent films to friends and they’re left confused who Knox is and what a luxury teacup has to do with anything.

    Meh
Not great- Sean and Amanda have a very strong knowledge of what they believe. A good movie is, how movies are made, and the industry in general. My frustration is in their highbrow take on things, if it’s not art house it’s not worth watching in their opinion. Her voice is the epitome of a former sorority sister who is slightly buzzed with aggressive vocal fry. they talk about their kids, inside jokes and “stuff” that have nothing to do with movies. I’m not listening anymore, I just wanted to leave an opinion because as someone who 100% supports the theater experience and spends hundreds of dollars a year in the theater, I wanted to have a more well-rounded diverse open-mindedness in their selections and opinions. I was really disappointed.

    Yikes
They just called Adrien Brody’s insufferable acceptance speech a “good speech” and they “loved” his demands to turn off the music, so I can’t listen to this podcast anymore. Their takes have always been all over the place, but this is truly mind-boggling. The lack of consideration to prepare a speech is one thing, but then to demand they turn the music off was next level narcissism. And they’re praising him? This is also the guy who literally sexually assaulted Halle Berry on stage… So very out of touch.

    Sean and Amanda
    I hate them

    great work overall
Best movie podcast out there…which is saying something because Amanda has just horrible takes consistently. Examples include her Trying to knock Civil War for “not getting it?” Basically she just recites the plot but with a confused tone and that’s her assessment. Couldn’t be more annoying and lacking thought. Agree with the sentiment of the comments around the uselessness of drafts. Some hosts ahem tend to draft the same movies over and over again. Four Weddings and A Funeral is not that great chill out

    Rippling with Expertise
I count myself among the ranks of both The Dob Mob and The Fen Men.

    It’s okay
The podcast is okay. The woman on the podcast kinda brings my rating down. She’s just incoherent when stating her opinions. Either she has not seem the film or doesn’t understand film. She also really hates on men in one episode. Other than that, it’s a decent podcast.
  • businessclass
    Listen.
I appreciate that there’s a meticulously color-coded google cal somewhere that needs filling, but would you consider ditching the auctions/drafts episodes? They’re all crazy bloated, and have no stakes whatsoever for the listener. Also, respectfully: I’m sure your kids are super adorable and charming, but maybe save the anecdotes for a breakout ringer parenting pod?
  • pearl 44 _
Yo stop talking about your kids nobody cares
    Seriously

    Lights, camera, big picture
Move over Siskel and Ebert, here comes a brand new duo to help inform and entertain about film. People have mixed opinions about the hosts but there’s nothing you can do about that. I recommend that you give it a shot and let’s see if you like it!

    Drafts are dumb
    Please stop them

    10/10
omg why did I read the other reviews for this perfect podcast.

    Great But Use A Compressor/Limiter
The podcast is exceptional. Amanda and Sean provide great insight and opinion. I would say that sometimes Amanda’s voice does reach a point of clipping which sounds harsh and startling. She has a great podcast voice and her opinions are excellent. Please try to limit the unexpected sudden volume increases. It’s unpleasant.

    Get Amanda gone
Amanda is so hot garbage. How can she continue to be on when she hasn’t seen the movies?
  • whichjen
    My fave podcast!
So glad Amanda’s back from maternity leave — she and Sean have the best chemistry! (Love when CR joins for 3rd chair, too)
  • Ajxkcnens
    Great
Sean and Amanda have great chemistry. Their conversation on The Brutalist was the best commentary/discussion on that film I’ve heard all season.
  • Difab4
    Vocal sound quality
Hello, I enjoy the content, but have become reluctant to listen because of the strident, unpleasant quality of Amanda’s voice. I suggest exploring a different mic or do a frequency analysis and use equalization to cut some of the offending upper/mid frequencies. I listen exclusively in a 2016 Toyota Camry and have no other similar problems with other podcasts, including The Town and Rewatchables. Thank you

Shout out producer Craig for setting the record straight on Cincinnati. Hope the festival comes here!

    Goodrich
One of the screenwriters of It's a Wonderful Life is Frances Goodrich - is that where the filmmakers got the name of the eponymous character in this film?
  • Zekeness
    Meh
I’m glad for the takes. But the disingenuous ‘I’m not a The Brutalist bro’ bro-y-ness this award season is a bit much. Meh.
  • RedLineToBraintree
    Gatekeeping
I like this podcast, but it feels like it’s gatekeeping a bit. Unless you are very in the weeds with the discourse of the films being discussed and the industry as a whole, a lot will be missed. I don’t want to have to have listened to every episode of this podcast for years, read the trades every day and spend hours on Reddit just to have my bearings for your discussions. Listening often feels like reading a paper with no topic sentences. A small amount of background/explanation of what you’re referring to would do wonders.

    Dobb Mobb Assemble
Sean’s ok but I listen for Amanda. She’s the fun, cool one. All the Amanda haters just sound like nerds or incels. Keep up the good work, Dobbins!
  • FattyLumpkin1
    Love it
I don’t understand the Amanda hate, she and everybody on the pod are awesome!
  • Not a Brutal-Boy
    Bru-TAL
Used to love it but Amanda and Sean have BOTH become so insufferable. I told myself I’d unfollow if I heard ANOTHER episode discussing The Brutalist and heard Sean using the cringe-inducing “Brutal-Boys” phrase. This is not a serious film podcast and completely filled with hacks.
  • JHFTL
    Get rid of Amanda
Please replace Amanda. She ruins every episode she’s on. She’s too interested in her own comments, isn’t funny, interrupts constantly (!!!!!) and is basically unbearable. Sean is great. Get Katy or Joanna to co-host. Please.
  • OrianaNataly
    Support for Amanda!
I’ve listened to this show for YEARS. Sean and Amanda’s chemistry is what makes it dynamic and interesting to watch. Without Amanda it would be a lot of Sean monologues and banter with Chris Ryan about their 20s in New York. No shade. Just pointing that Sean needs the balance that Amanda brings to the show, and also her chronically online presence. Amanda is always the one knowing what’s actually happening to the stars out of the screen and how that can impact the business they’re in. That said, I do have to agree with other reviewers about the kids talk. Good for your parenting guys, really, and they all seem pretty cute and all, but we listen to hear about movies, not your kids.

    Amanda must go
This podcast features Amanda Dobbins, the biggest, most annoying troll on the planet. She’s proudly ignorant and seems to hate movies and people. She’s thin skinned and lashes out at everything like a petulant child. What other job in the world could you be as ignorant, unprepared, and lazy as she is continue to keep your job? Anyone who refers to movies as “boy movies” & “girl movies” or themselves in the third person in 2024 is just plainly an idiot not worth your time. Replace Amanda with literally anyone else! PS-no one is here to listen about your kid. Not one person. Those months without Amanda making everything about her narrow tastes and apathy towards movies was a glorious time for the pod. It blossomed without her and her atrocious vibes. Check the game tape. Your listeners hate Amanda!!

Very Basic W Some Glimmers of Hope
I listen to The Rewatchables and I like when Sean is on so I checked this podcast out. Their opinions/takes are very cookie cutter Hollywood liberal type takes, and that’s coming from someone who barely leans right. I like some of the concepts/gimmicks like *blank actor* hall of fame. The format reminds me of a movie podcast I really liked when I was younger called The Film Vault. Also certain guests such as Soderbergh or even just the other rewatchables folks like Van Lathan or Chris Ryan are fun to see. Yet I don’t know there just seems to be a lack of personality or true aspiration to critically examine film. I don’t know if Sean and the cohost just aren’t a good fit or what but a lot of the time episodes seem to fall flat despite fun gimmicks and good guests.
  • Mbender1230
    Great duo.
Love both Sean and Amanda together. My favorite movie pod.
  • Anonccc85
    Amanda so insufferable
The moment of her saying “whatever” to a very bold, acclaimed movie, I just turned off and unfollowed.
  • Liebertam
    Please get rid of Amanda
Sean and The Big Picture is a 5 star podcast but why please someone tell me why Amanda is here? She needs to go. No one cares about her opinion. Please bring in Joanna and get rid of Amanda. Unfollowing until changes are made.

    Tuning out after Amanda’s return…
Amanda - I mean, why are you here lady? Do you even like movies?! It’s grown intolerable and bums me out. It was back to a glorious format when she was on maternity leave (how many times can she mention it?!) with the rotating guest hosts it soared… it was about cinema and film critisicm and it’s just jarring how suddenly it’s shifted back to… this…immediately upon her return. Amanda you have the best job in the world. Yet you don’t bother to watch movies, you seem to hate every other genre of cinema, and lack intelligent input or insight in terms of criticism. I just don’t understand. There’s no way the positive AD review are not her husband and fam? There’s just no way! Please The Ringer - READ THE ROOM… many of us have been devoted BP listeners for YEARS. But the feedback is legit. Dobbins is ruining this. You have a serious of other hosts who excel in the role like Joanna Robinson, even Chris Ryan or Van Lathan. I’ve had to stop listening to another Ringer pod (dish) due to Dobbins permanent addition as a host there and I don’t want to lose TBP because of her too. But it’s becoming unbearable. The lack of respect for her job - a role plenty of other female film critics would excel (and have) in. Read the room , please. We don’t mean to be rude - but she’s sabotaging a genuinely good podcast. You’re losing us all one by one.
  • Smhhhhhh_
Amanda routinely says “listen” then proceeds to share a lukewarm or brain rotting take, and it makes me want to resign to the mountains and never have to listen to people speak again. Sean, i worry about your back, as you have carried the load of this podcast since its inception
  • Skinya12345
    Amanda still insufferable
We get it… you have kids.
  • SylvieHUS
    Pretty sexist
I’m so sick of the “{insert movie} boys” thing in this otherwise fine/informative podcast. Latest is “Brutalist boys” - in an episode with Alex Ross Perry, Alex joked about how only men (or women forced to go with their boyfriends) would see this movie … the implication being that women are not interested in movies this serious or “important.” Come on. Sean seems to have gotten the memo (he probably reads these reviews) and half-heartedly added “and girls” to ANOTHER Brutalist boys comment in a more recent episode. Give the boys thing a rest, which I think will require less CR, sorry bros.

    wish i could give it a 0/5
This podcast is the definition of a trainwreck, and Amanda Dobbins is the conductor. It’s the kind of wreck where you can’t help but pay close attention to something that no one should. I describe this podcast to others as an echo chamber, where these two come to a conclusion about a movie before it even comes out and then convince themselves they were ahead if the curve, even if the movie is awful. When Sean said this about themselves it actually blew my mind that he was self aware, but then he and Amanda proceeded to convince themselves they don’t do this. To Bill Simmons, who is in charge of quality control? Amanda’s job is quite literally to watch movies yet she can barely contribute to any conversation because she “hasn’t seen the movie.” I feel like Sean is a pretty solid host and despite my criticism, I genuinely do enjoy his presence on The Rewatchables along with his interactions with CR on this pod. Amanda just drags this show down to the depths of a fiery inferno. P.S. Does Amanda have a kid? I can’t tell. P.S.S. I fired up the latest podcast and thought, how soon is Amanda going to bring up the fact she has a kid? Answer: 4 minutes. At least the first minute is an ad.

    A sad group of hacks
You will never find a bigger group of film hacks than the people who participate in this podcast. There is no genuine insight or original thought to be had; instead, they will regurgitate the prevailing cultural zeitgeist back at you with absolutely no critical analysis. I can’t imagine how sad it must be to lack any genuine opinions, as these people do. It must be like being an unknown to yourself.

When it sticks to film A+
Good luck keeping Amanda from going on and on about her kids (I think I hate Max now) her friends kids what they’re watching, doing. Ugh. Lots of FF through weird nonsense that adds 30 mins to each show. But I like the movie talk. Like right now, she can’t stop laughing and talking about a water bottle for five minutes. It’s almost unlistenable.
  • @tjwhite80
    Too Many Personal Asides
The hosts’ movie insights are really entertaining and thoughtful. I really look forward to hearing the diverse perspectives. Unfortunately, often times the conversation devolves into personal asides and a kind of ringer-style “we are the cool kids” banter.

    DOB MOB
Loved the rotating guest hosts while Amanda was on leave but am so glad she’s back.
  • NaomiBurton
No, I'm not related to Amanda
I love her take on everything. I started listening after hearing her on other shows. She is just terrific
  • Business B, Always and Forever
    One of my faves!
I love The Big Picture! Appreciate the time to deep dive into movies/reviews, and tend to really like the Drafts and other special segments… I will say that the the references can get a little highfalutin and obscure at times, but the passion and knowledge from Sean makes up for it. Lastly, and I hate to say it, Amanda is the weak link for me:/ We love the girlies, but her takes, energy and dynamic with Sean don’t click for me.
